Where does your brother live? In NYC, that is a terrible salary. But let me assume he’s somewhere in KY, where I live. Not properly planning, he’ll take home ~$33,333 or $2778 per month which is inadequate to survive on with his expenses, but he’ll get a huge tax refund of $7115 from Federal and $630 from State. He should adjust his W-4 reducing his deductions to get that money back in his monthly check. Proper planning will give him an additional $645 in his check for a take-home paycheck of $3423. His expenses are $2840. This means he would have $583 left for other activities. This is more than enough to make it in today’s world. People need to wake up and not allow the government to sit on your money for 15 months!!!
my brother makes $24 an hour.
40 hours a week.
that’s about $49,900 a year before taxes.
his monthly expenses:
$1,600 rent
$350 car payment
$210 insurance
$500 groceries
$180 utilities
and people still tell him:
“you just need to budget better.”
bro is budgeting $24 an hour against 2026 prices.

The best test of durability will be at the Apple Store. Go and check out the display model (make note of the serial number). Go back three months later to see if there is a crease or not. Also, make sure it’s the same display model. If there is a crease or they changed the display, then something is awry!!!

Insurance and the bureaucracy adds all kinds of cost. Believe it or not, there are plenty of doctors that will take cash instead of insurance money and it would be far less expensive. Insurance gives the illusion that they are lowering prices, but they are. If I did not have kids involved, I would only purchase catastrophic insurance and leave the rest to out of pocket. Right now, I have company insurance, but high deductible. I still have to pay $7000 out of pocket for the insurance, then have a co-pay for the family of up to $6000. That is $13K before any real coverage kicks in. When the kids are old enough, the insurance is gone!
