I think all metropolitan municipalities in South Africa should consider a different governance model. One Executive Mayor overseeing the entire metro, with area mayors responsible for different geographical areas.
Our metros are huge. Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini and Cape Town, for example, need leadership that is closer to communities.
One overall mayor, but stronger local political leadership, better accountability and more focus on service delivery in each area. Why should communities feel disconnected from municipal leadership?
Its because black people survived poverty under apartheid. So losing AGOA will not make them forget how to survive? 😂
But South Africa has its own currency, the rand, issued by the South African Reserve Bank.
When Trump’s Empire Comes to collect!! Since y’all think being out of AGOA helps us , remember who we owe Trillions To
Remember who Prints our Currency
Remember who owns the Economy
RSA is being pinned into a Corner so that Government relinquishes total control and gives autonomy to American Proxies that are found in our Country.
AGOA is an Economic Suffocation and don’t think Capital will drop any prices or have incentives for us.
An Economic Suffocation is orchestrated to collapse a Government without a Coupe.
Let's use Zimbabwe as an example:
Imagine South Africa decides tomorrow to cut trade ties with Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwean businesses that sell to South Africa lose customers.
South African businesses that buy from Zimbabwe must find other suppliers.
Workers and consumers on both sides feel the impact.
That's how international trade works. It is not only one country that loses.
America also has economic interests in South Africa.
Funny how accountability only seems to matter when it's directed at South Africa.
Trade agreements are negotiations, not obedience contracts.
South Africa must protect its interests, just as America protects its own.
Congratulations @CyrilRamaphosa @MbalulaFikile @RonaldLamola @DIRCO_ZA @GovernmentZA @MYANC. Years of lecturing Washington paid off: SA loses AGOA from 1 Jan 2027 over trade barriers and corruption. Well done. And thank you @USTradeRep and @USAmbRSA for holding them to account.
🤣🤣 So AGOA is now an Afrikaner issue? You people are something else!
Let's not rewrite history.
South Africa's economy, industries and position in Africa were not built by AGOA alone.
It contributed to trade, yes, but reducing decades of economic development to one trade agreement is misleading.
We need facts, not political drama.
Why is accountability only expected from South Africa? Doesn't America have businesses, investments, jobs and trade interests here too?
This is a two-way economic relationship. South Africa has something to lose, but so does America.
Let's discuss both sides instead of pretending only one country has economic interests at stake.
The US announcement does not mean all South African exports to America will stop.
Why are some people so worried about pleasing America?
Sadly white citizens are now also punished due to South Africa being kicked out of AGOA.
All they had to do to prevent this was to scrap the "nil compensation" expropriation act, condemn "Kill the Boer", prioritise rural safety, and scrap BEE.
@realDonaldTrump @CNN @news24
You are presenting this as if South Africa only had to surrender its policies to keep AGOA. We can debate land reform, BEE and rural safety without reducing everything to resentment towards white people and farmers. South Africa must protect jobs and maintain trade relations, but it must also have the freedom to make its own policies. Engagement with America should not mean surrendering our sovereignty.
