“Sometimes when you start a band…you think you’ve gotta be poetic and flowery And [Tom Petty] would be the first person that I would say listen to this. Look at how much he’s saying with so few words.”

Following the hugely sad news about #MarianneFaithfull our First Time show from @BBC6Music in 2011 is back on @BBCSounds It was obviously wonderful being able to record a show with her. She was amazing.

This feels deep. Farewell Garth Hudson, the very last surviving member of The Band, perhaps THE great American group. A while ago we drove out down long, icy roads through snow and forests just to spend a moment at Big Pink. Just to see one of the places The Band did their thing. – at South West, England
Each member of The Band was essential. Perhaps Levon was soul, Robbie ambition, Richard heart and Rick reminded them to let go and not give a f*ck. But Garth? Who could play anything and everything, was maybe the spirit. The unusual one, the one closest to the divine source.
…so let’s play this one loud.

Blue Monday isn’t real – don’t believe the hype you see today!
Here's why we’re binning it off to make space for ✨Brew Monday✨ instead.
David Lynch’s @BBC6Music First Time show from 2013 has been put back up on @BBCSounds. Interviewing your heroes is often a mistake, but in this case it was exactly as strange, surprising and wonderful as I could have ever wanted. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b03d11… – at South West, England
I only knew the poster. It fascinated me. Then Ch4 broadcast Eraserhead late night in the mid-80s so I taped it on VHS. Watching it, the day after, was life-changing. It’s never left me. Terrifying but entrancing. I never knew it was possible to make films of dreams. #davidlynch – at South West, England

This was me bumping into Freddie Mercury outside a Daewoo dealership in Erdington in 1984. He was explaining how to pronounce the company name.
I’m hosting Now Playing on @bbc6music from 6pm and we’d like stories about when you first met your musical hero (and a song choice too please). The more mundane, underwhelming or ridiculous the better. Did Sade ask you for directions to B&M? We’d like to know...
