Huge congrats to @SamForstag, Congressman-elect for Western Montana. Sam is smart, kind, humble, and hard-working, a great fit to take the seat once held by Pat Williams and Max Baucus. And hats off to an incredible campaign team who hustled so hard!

It goes without saying that I have major disagreements with both Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed, and neither one particularly likes me.
Rogers and I regularly battled in the U.S. House. I’m a staunch defender of liberty and the Constitution, and he’s a champion of big weaponized government, mass surveillance, and endless wars. He tried (and failed) to oust me from Congress.
When I was considering a presidential run in 2020, El-Sayed wrote a gratuitous op-ed to warn people that “Justin Amash is no hero,” calling my principles “heartless” and finishing with the reminder: “Your enemy’s enemy is not your friend.”
In short, I have no soft spot for either of these guys.
I also don’t vote for “the lesser of two evils.”
I believe you should support a candidate only if you truly want the person to hold that office.
I’ve already voted, and consistent with the above principle, I didn’t vote for Rogers or El-Sayed.
But I do know which one would be more dangerous in the U.S. Senate—and it’s not even close.

Mike Rogers will be another rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda. We can’t afford to give MAGA another Senate seat in November. #MISEN

Hey in case anyone's waffling here. Keep Mike Rogers far, far away from the US Senate.

You heard it from @JanMainoforMI. We can’t take our foot off the pedal until 8pm on Election Day.

Good news: @aaronflint’s best friend loses his silly lawsuit trying to silence critics.
Bad news: the money he’ll use to pay the attorneys’ fees is all from the taxpayer-funded contracts he benefits from

We have a loved one scheduled to be on this flight. He will be killed if he’s returned to the Taliban. He supported the US mission in Afghanistan. He has broken no laws. He came here legally. Seeking asylum should not be a death sentence.
Breaking News: The Trump administration has detained dozens of Afghan immigrants in Louisiana — including relatives of those who helped the U.S. military — and plans to deport them to Afghanistan, according to U.S. officials. nyti.ms/4jPVvrw

For those of you mercifully confused by this and her whole... thing, Nicki Minaj wants two things: a pardon for her brother (who was convicted of sexually abusing an 11 year old girl in New York State, a pardon that can only be granted by the governor) and a pardon for her husband (he didn't register as a sex offender in California, a federal offense, which can only be pardoned by the President.)
Another $2 million bailout for @aaronflint from the party bosses. I think this brings it to $11 million total

TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.
NEW: Scott Presler allowed multiple out of state GOP operatives to use his home in Pennsylvania to vote in the '24 election. Those operatives then left the state. Election lawyers say this could be in violation of PA voting laws.

Biennial reminder / polling and early voting rates by party affiliation are decent predictive mechanisms but we don’t know how voters vote until election night when actual votes get reported

George Washington biographer here. In this letter, Washington is calling for wartime profiteers to be hanged.
Luckey’s theory that public executions help voters restrain state violence appears nowhere in it—he’s invented the endorsement.
/1
I am getting lots of incoming questions about the public execution of Nidal Hasan, mostly because I have been outspoken on wanting public executions for over a decade.
My position is simple: Executions should be public and brutal, not private and medicalized. They are the ultimate example of the state's monopoly on violence, and the only way to keep that from running out of control is to confront voters with the trade they have made every single time, that they might have appropiate confidence or revulsion in the institution.
This is not new thinking. George Washington thought the same. The way we have shifted from hanging to firing squads to doctors quietly injecting chemicals that send our worst gently off to sleep is awful and dystopian, a total short-circuiting of important feedback mechanisms. It makes needless executions more likely, not less so. People who demean this as barbaric or yucky miss the whole point. It doesn't somehow become torture or inhumane (as the UN is suddenly claiming) just because we decline to hide the act behind a curtain.
And then there are those who suggest any revel in the death of those who truly deserve it is an indicator of a broken or diseased mind. To the contrary. It is normal, good, and aligned with our natural and national order. That it has not been done here in 60 years is an indictment in and of itself.
And that is without even getting into the fact that men were not hung for stealing horse, but that horses may not be stolen.
"I would to God that one of the most attrocious in each State was hung in Gibbets, up on a gallows five times as high as the one prepared by Haman. No punishment, in my opinion, is too great for the Man, who can build his greatness upon his Country’s ruin."
- George Washington, 1778
