It's #LipreadingAwarenessWeek and our Peer Support Volunteer, Sylvia, shares just how "worthwhile" this skill is to learn.
Lipreading uses visual cues from lip movements and facial expressions to understand speech and developing these skills can help you to feel more confident.

After receiving the news, Sarah said: "I feel very humbled and overwhelmed so I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted and support both of us.
"This award absolutely means the world to us, and hopefully this will raise even more awareness of Hearing Dogs."

ALT A graphic encouraging people to vote for Sarah and Albert in the JustGiving awards. Golden cocker spaniel Albert is lying on a living room floor and is inbetween two illuminated numbers - a 2 and an 8. Behind him is Sarah, who is pointing at Albert with both hands, and is smiling. Under the photo is a white box with the names Sarah & Albert. There is a purple background to the graphic, which has the words 'Vote For Me, and 'Vote Now' on it.

Sarah was born profoundly deaf and didn't feel part of a hearing world.
She was partnered with hearing dog Albert in 2015, and as well as alerting her to important & life-saving sounds, Albert has broken down barriers and given Sarah the confidence to live life how she wants.
