Seeing Mick Molloy win #Hollymount Road Race in 1968, after he ran Olympic marathon in #Mexico, I was inspired to take up running. Seán Ó Conchúir has written a nice homage to the race & many different characters who have starred there over the yrs, pg 19. athenry10k.com/booklets/2015…
The first Hollymount race was held in 1966, with brothers Sean and Tom Reilly involved in organising the event from the beginning. At the 60th edition in 2025, Ronnie Naylor completed the event more than half a century after first running in Hollymount. #Ryan O’Donoghue deservedly won #Footballer of the Year award. He travelled a much longer journey than David #Clifford w some outstanding individual displays. He gave the team belief & momentum. The 3rd Mayo player to win after Lee Keegan in 2016 & Andy #Moran 2017. Maigh Eo Abú!

“#Supershoe” running shoes w thick foam midsoles & a stiff carbon-fibre plate may produce 1-2% improvement in distance running times, esp in #marathon. For 2:05–2:10 marathoners, that's about 1 min 15 sec. But the recent glut of #records is multifactorial. nytimes.com/athletic/5834953…

Residents should demand rigorous environmental & noise assessments b4 planning permission granted. Noise can be especially intrusive as cooling equipment may operate 24hr a day, 7 days a week. Low-frequency #noise travels long distances & may be more noticeable indoors at night.
