Elizabeth Hernandez is serving 20 years in federal prison following a healthcare-fraud conviction. Her family maintains that she was an unknowing participant, and they haven't stopped fighting to bring her home. Their concerns about the process aren't limited to allegations. On appeal, the Eleventh Circuit found that the trial court abused its discretion by giving prosecutors more time for closing arguments than Elizabeth's defense. The court ultimately deemed the error harmless and still upheld her conviction.
