Fixing Claude's writing was pivotal to reducing gradual disempowerment. Lack of understanding made us all cede decision-making to Claude because we couldn't even understand what it's saying.

getting ml into experimental loops across scientific disciplines is probably one of the highest social value uses of ai that i can think of
Announcing Discovery Loop!
I am very excited to announce that, along with my longtime friends and collaborators @Sanjay_Ghemawat, @OriolVinyalsML and @quocleix, we are founding Discovery Loop (@DiscoLoopAI), a Public Benefit Corporation whose mission is to automate machine learning, science, and engineering to accelerate discoveries and progress. The four of us have worked together for 14 to 30 years, and have helped build some of the world’s most used products, infrastructure and AI models, and we’re excited to turn our attention to this ambitious endeavor.

I’ll always remember fondly the time a guy dismissed my work because LLMs are just stochastic parrots and I asked him if he came up with that on his own or repeated something he heard

A big fraction of society's problems are downstream of people assuming the real world operates by the same dynamics as fictional ones
Anyone basing their world view and fears off sci-fi books is almost certain to be wildly off base about the nature of life and reality and the development of technology.
Sci-fi writing isn't really about predicting the future. It's about telling a good story and stories are about conflict so whatever raises conflict is what you do as a writer.
But some people read Dune and think it's reflections on machine intelligence are profound and realitic.
They're not.
The writer wanted to make the future a feudal sword epic, so he invented constraints to get there. Unless you think space table is likely to involve feudal warring clans and sword fights it's not a reflection of anyjring close to reality.
The write invented purposeful constraints to tell this story:
Suits that would stop bullets, but not energy blades, so you can have up close fighting.
No AI so the focus is strictly in the machinations of humans and great clan warfare right out of the Waring States period in Japan.
Conflicts that mirror the middle east.
You can't base your understanding of the future of AI on Dune, or the Culture, or Nueromancer, or Terminator or any of this stuff. I say this as a life long sci-fi fan and sci-fi writer.
Writing is not reality.
Observe the real world and don't base your understanding of it on fantasies and fables.
The "commoditization of tokens will destroy OAI and Anthropic's profitability" narrative seems way overplayed
Oil is the quintessential commodity but ExxonMobil and Saudi Aramco have been some of the world's most profitable companies for decades
It's so funny when Claude says a plan will take 2-3 days of work, like aww you think I'm gonna write the code myself huh?
Amazing how Claude can pump out thousands of lines of pristine backend code and then take 10 rounds of prompting to produce a working UI button
UX testing is going to be the new bottleneck

From the latest issue of @AIAgentNews:
RPA is dead. Long live AI agents
“Robotic process automation” sounds like the quintessential technology of the future, and it was—until AI agents came along.
Although some argue that the rise of agents represents the end of RPA, it is better understood as a death and rebirth.
While the original tools of RPA proved inadequate to their task, the new generation of agentic AI is finally proving capable of delivering the broad and impactful enterprise automation that RPA initially promised, and RPA firms—all of which now prominently feature AI agents on their websites—live on.
RPA may be dead, but AI agents are rising like a phoenix from its ashes.
