This ought to have been acknowledged a long time ago. Glad to see it’s been done now, and the implicite point made that Brexit, and the ensuing political crisis, was something Russia saw as in its interests.
Breaking news: UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has accused Moscow of meddling in the 2016 Brexit referendum and warns European voters of the Russian threat ft.trib.al/sLGisIp

Breaking: Andy Burnham has pledged “complete solidarity” to Zelensky as Trump calls for a new Ukranian leader. The PM talked to Zelensky after Trump’s surprise overnight deal with Putin to release Russian diesel to bring down US prices. No10 readout states: “The Prime Minister began by recognising the last 24 hours had been difficult for Ukraine and reiterated his complete solidarity.” Also says Burnham and Zelensky will meet in person in the coming days. European leaders rallying round Zelensky today. Trump doing the opposite, saying just now it is time for a “new leader”. Big split once again opening up down the Atlantic over Ukraine

Agree with this - so much of the Brexit commentary assumes that 2016 voters will behave in the same way as last time. But 2026 voters are different - the older ones have a decade of evidence proving it didn’t work, younger voters were never asked to take a view, and everyone’s worldview is different given the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and given Trump (particularly Trump II). There is far more political space here to make and win an argument than some would have us believe. Time we made use of it.
Also obvious and often forgotten: underlying maths here changed. A lot of people still analyse politics of Brexit as if the split in the public is still 52/48, with leave both an overall majority and more efficiently spread, with most seats majority Leave. None of that true now

When I say the politics will become increasingly obvious... I mean look at this. If you want to unite the left/centre and split the Tories, without a big spending committment there's no better option.

The UK stands with the International Criminal Court and we stand united with our partners in strongly disagreeing with sanctions imposed on the Court. The ICC must be permitted to continue its critical work holding perpetrators of the most horrific international crimes to account.

Excellent example of how an active state can support start-ups, entrepreneurs and economic dynamism – credit to Burnham for moving swiftly.

Incredibly grim that this parliament is now projected to be the worst on record for living standards by @jrf_uk. The only long-term solution is to go for growth: planning reform + energy reform + AI adoption + undoing the Brexit penalty. theguardian.com/business/202…

Couple of thoughts on Holborn & St Pancras Big winner for me is Andy Burnham. Lab hold the seat with 45% of the vote. Not down that much on 2024 GE 49%. So Burnham has beat Reform 55-35 in Makerfield and seen off the Green leader in central London. More evidence of upturn in labours fortunes post Starmer.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of launching the National Cancer Plan. Whilst I am no longer a health minister, working to help drive forward the NCP is a huge priority of mine. It was great to get together with experts to discuss how the NCP can deliver for younger people
