How do Anna's hummingbirds color their feathers purplish-red? In our new paper, led by Sangyeop Kim from Yonsei U., we use "nano-sandblasting" to show that removal of the outer barbule layer eliminates the purplish color, demonstrating its critical role. doi.org/10.1098/rsif.2026.06…
