One of the things the old Pro systems enabled, which Commander by and large is not doing, is incentivize people who are not local to each other, maybe even from other countries, to spend large amounts of time and money to play with and against each other regularly.

Pro Tours are a luxury hobby, fun to play once in a while, just simply not worth pursuing for anything more than personal accomplishment. IMO it’s def fine to aspire to that, but you’re not earning a living playing competitive mtg these days so temper your expectations.

Commander has a lot of juice, being more casual lets it be played over the internet despite the official digital clients. The tradeoff here is a completely normal choice for a game company to make. But don't let anyone tell you it wasn't a choice that was made.

Somehow it was learning how many people are fulltime employed to maintain the Golden Gate Bridge that flipped something inside of me in my understanding of the entropic force civilization has to constantly fight against. Before that moment I thought — I had not applied real conscious thought — you simply build a building or anything really and then you just … have it. After that I understood everything is constantly at the brink of being lost.

It’s been on my mind lately. When I was doing a learn to play workshop for MTG last month, I always got asked “Are there any precons you recommend?” I had to promote an EDH precon because there’s literally ZERO option for a 1v1 format, closest we got was Jumpstart packs.

I have lived through a sea change in media with regards to anime, and foreign media in general, for the US. Foreign media in the US from any country was niche around the turn of the century. Now kdramas and anime and BBO are just kinda the sea we swim in.

I cannot overstate how much perception of Japanese anime in the West has changed over the last decade. I graduated high school in 2015 and even back then it wasn’t anywhere nearly as widely accepted among the mainstream as it is now.

I'm going to put a side-note that my first thought, here, was RNG usage. It is possible to prove that your psudo-random number generator is 'good' for whatever purpose, AND to use it in such a way that you destroy its randomness. When it matters, you need to care top to bottom.

These sort of concerns, and mitigating them, are obviously very mature in the computer security and cryptographic spaces, but it every programmer and system user needs to understand! And that thought dovetails with endpoint-failure opsec. You gotta think about the whole thing.
