On Tuesday Christopher Luxon said that enrollments would be higher than previous elections.
Today the official figure shows a 1.1% drop attributable to National's attack on voting rights and could be important given how tight this election race is.

Nick Mowbray dropped half a million on National & ACT in an attempt to buy this election & now he wants to change MMP because the two major parties are failing.
These people will always weaponise their wealth to maintain power & control.

Healthy democracies make it easier to vote. Authoritarian regimes make it harder. The only people happy with the drop in the proportion of our population, especially young people, enrolled, are those who want fewer people to vote.

He was a culture-war obsessed, useless transport and energy minister, he’s currently a disastrous health minister and, according the RNZ RR poll, it turns out he’s a pretty fucking useless campaign manager too.

It was Labour that ran 9 consecutive surpluses, paid down debt & started Super/KiwiSaver before Key left $60b debt. Ardern ran surplus until Covid. The debt fearmongering is off: Germany, Singapore, Belgium all run high debt

Luxon "very comfortable" with 300,000 Kiwis not being allowed to vote 13 days before Election Day
The move is expected to give National 2 extra electorate seats. #nzpolitics #Kiwi

to stay within an arbitrary budget, they're getting rid of value-for-money(!), sustainability, and safety features of the project.
It's another case where what looks like a cost saving on the surface is actually just shifting costs, and making them larger in the process.

This is the number in the polls that I'm keeping my eye on. Labour+Greens+Opportunity is now consistently the only viable three party majority.
Of the 9 polls in October, only the last two TVNZ ones give the National coalition a majority

re 'strategic' voting. Biggest pool of unsplit minor party votes Lab/Nat seats is Greens
2023 Hutt Sth
ACT 350
NZF 880
Grn 1550
Green voters see what Mowbray's trying. They'll split too
Mowbray's play only works if lots of Nats switch party vote to NZF or ACT. No sign of that

The Government's '$1.7b' cost for the ferry replacement (which didn't include the $600m cost of cancelling iReX) wasn't an actual budget based on expected costs.
It was just a cap on what the govt said it was prepared to spend for political reasons.
Of course, it was too low

Hutt South is one of twelve seats around the country that can help thwart the overhang strategically if people strategically cast their electorate vote for the Labour candidate.
There must have been rumours floating around ACT about Jagos sexual offending before he got arrested and Atlas Dave would have known.
Similar to this young lady---suppresed by ACT.

this 'net increase of 9000 in 3 years' is a lot like the 2000 extra nurses
Nats came in in the middle of Labour hiring 3000 nurses a yr. froze it - 54 nurses in 2 yrs
They also came in with 1000s of state houses half built. those were completed. work on 1000s more was cancelled

My company's poll suggests that this won't be enough to stop Andersen winning Hutt South.
Half of NZF's voter were already planning to vote for Bishop (it's not like split voting is an idea Mowbray just invented). Even the whole other half isn't enough to close the gap
