WATCH: Ex-OpenAI & Ex-Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon WARNS AI COULD KILL US ALL BY 2030
A former Google DeepMind researcher who worked directly on AGI safety just resigned with an extraordinary warning: “I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all, and that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome.”
Bilal Chughtai says AI has gone from “amusingly useless” in 2022 to agent swarms solving century-old math problems and systems demonstrating concerningly autonomous capabilities in just four years.
He warns that AI capabilities are advancing far faster than researchers’ ability to ensure the systems remain aligned with human intentions, potentially creating superintelligent systems that humans cannot control.
His resignation follows similar warnings from other leading AI researchers and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who recently called for slowing frontier AI development to prevent catastrophic risks.
