LPS remains the cleanest near-term bet, power and energized land are the real bottlenecks.
Harnesses + applications are the durable software opportunity: own the proprietary data/workflows and ship custom solutions once models commoditize.
Silicon and pure clouds look capital-intensive and crowded; niche efficiency plays can still work, but the broad middle of the stack is where most money will be lost.
Here is my AI investing guide.
Sitting here August 2026, my current best thoughts are as follows:
1. LPS (Land Power Shell) is still the most obvious and fastest path to cash on cash returns. Lots of value can be assembled and traded quickly at this layer. And as data centers get more pushback, energized land can explode in value. Very bullish here.
I’ve stepped into this layer very aggressively. My partner @anitavlallian and I have acquired almost 6GW coming online in a ramp from today thru 2029 of grid power and behind the meter.
2. Silicon - I helped get @GroqInc off the ground in 2015 and we licensed it to @nvidia for $20B Dec2025. I won’t invest or incubate anything in this layer now. The perf demands of the chips are too high, manufacturing precision is too complex and supply chain influence to get adjacent components like memory isn’t possible for a startup anymore. Lots of capital will be wasted here chasing Groq and Cerebras’ success. Note that both startups made sense a decade ago when these constraints were much more modest.
3. Clouds - Clouds are very very lucrative but very hard to build and very expensive and technically complicated to maintain. And as alignment becomes a more important issue, I expect the clouds will be asked to build robust KYC and attest to it. This makes the risk:reward ratio skewed. I don’t want to be responsible when the USG says a cloud allowed a bad actor to do something bad because of poor KYC.
4. Models are complicated. The big open question is how much of the revenue being generated by them today is because of tokenmaxxing and poor model behavior. If it’s a lot, then the annualized revenues will diminish meaningfully even as token consumption inflects upwards. This is the big economic question at this layer.
5. Harnesses are where the action is and why I started @8090solutions two years ago. In a nutshell, the harness helps enterprises owns their proprietary context (what Alex Karp calls their ‘alpha’). This is an enterprise’s data, workflows, evals, and business rules. A harness that gives this to an enterprise is what creates very low model-agnostic switching costs, which further reinforces my views of #4 above.
6. Applications will be another long term winner along with harnesses. This is where the differentiation between “off the shelf” and “custom time and materials” melts away. Every company, with the right harness, can now imbue their alpha into the software that runs their company. I expect this to mean that “off the shelf” is largely replaced with custom software creating a huge opportunity to write these solutions for companies. Build once and sell repeatedly is a laggard GTM motion for a SaaS world that isn’t needed here. Think custom by design, alpha embedded, proprietary by nature.
Fin.
Good luck to all the players!
“This is our job. This is what we’re here to do.”
No ego. No victory lap. Just quiet excellence… and then he went back to work.
In a world full of noise, this is what character looks like.
Respect to Ryder and every young person still choosing duty over drama.
16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams recounts his heroic rescue in Santa Cruz California, praises his fellow lifeguard for helping with the rescue.
“I wish more people knew about ocean conditions and rip currents.”
“I'd like people to remember that we make thousands of rescues along the California coast and around the world every day, and that this is not an uncommon occurrence. This is our job, this is what we're here to do, and this is the reason we are here.”
Hero.
China dominates pure-play humanoid valuations, with Unitree setting the public benchmark. Rainbow shows Korea can compete. Real edge may still go to players with actual manufacturing scale (e.g. XPeng) over pure funding numbers.
What a Team. What an Event. What a Journey.
As the curtains close on the Ultra Web3 Festival 2026, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride.
Behind every successful event is a team that most people never get to see, a group of passionate individuals who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, solving problems before they became visible, putting in long hours, supporting one another, and always keeping the mission in sight.
This wasn’t just a team.
This was a rockstar team.
From the organizers, speakers, volunteers, production crew, partners, sponsors, moderators, emcees, and everyone who played a part, you turned a vision into an unforgettable experience for the entire Web3 community.
Events like these aren’t built by individuals. They’re built by trust, collaboration, resilience, and countless acts of teamwork.
Thank you to every single person who gave your energy, passion, and commitment to make Ultra Web3 Festival such an incredible success.
The connections made, ideas shared, partnerships formed, and memories created over these two days will continue to ripple through our ecosystem long after the lights go out.
Here’s to celebrating what we’ve achieved together, and to making Ultra Web3 Festival 2027 even bigger, bolder, and more impactful.
Until next year…
One team. One vision. One unforgettable event.
@UltraWeb3Fest
“An idiot with a plan can beat a genius without a plan.”
It’s a provocative quote, but there’s a powerful lesson behind it.
Too many brilliant people spend years perfecting ideas.
Average people start executing.
In today’s AI era, intelligence is no longer the biggest competitive advantage. AI has democratized access to knowledge. What separates winners from everyone else is having a clear plan, and consistently taking action.
A simple plan, executed every day, will almost always outperform a brilliant strategy that never leaves the whiteboard.
I’ve met countless founders and executives who know everything about AI, business, and technology. Yet they remain stuck because they’re waiting for the “perfect” moment.
Meanwhile, someone with half the knowledge but a clear roadmap is already:
* Launching products.
* Learning from customers.
* Improving every week.
* Building momentum.
Execution compounds.
The same principle applies to your career, your business, your investments, and your personal growth.
Don’t ask:
“How can I create the perfect plan?”
Ask:
“What’s the next step I can execute today?”
Because momentum beats perfection.
In a world where everyone has access to intelligence through AI, your ability to plan, execute, adapt, and stay consistent becomes your unfair advantage.
Plan. Execute. Learn. Repeat.
That’s how ordinary people achieve extraordinary results.
Even cold wallets can get wrecked!!
This COLDCARD seed-entropy disaster is the brutal reminder: air-gaps, secure elements, and “don’t trust, verify” still failed thousands of the most careful holders because of a 2021 build flaw that turned their supposedly random seeds into something an attacker could just regenerate and sweep.
Nearly 1,400 BTC gone. People who did everything right, hardware only, offline, no seed phrases ever typed online, still got cleaned out in minutes.
The crypto industry keeps proving it: the real threat isn’t always some phishing scammer. Sometimes it’s the very tools we trust the most that contain the fatal bug. Careful people are the ones paying the price right now.
And AI is making it worse. Scammers now use it to craft perfect deepfakes, hyper-personalized phishing, and faster vulnerability hunting, lowering the barrier for sophisticated attacks while flooding the space with more convincing fakes. Everyone needs to stay sharp on both the pros (better threat detection, smarter wallets) and the serious cons of AI in crypto.
Protect what you can:
- Split holdings across several independent wallets / devices (never one single seed)
- Use multisig where practical
- Diversify hardware brands and keep most funds truly cold
- Stay on top of device-specific security advisories and firmware notices
Security is never absolute. Not even on a Coldcard.
Just returned from WAIC 2026 in Shanghai.
One thing became crystal clear.
Most people in the West are looking at the AI race through the wrong lens.
They see:
• OpenAI vs DeepSeek
• Nvidia vs Huawei
• US vs China
That’s not what I saw.
China isn’t trying to win the chatbot race.
It’s trying to build the world’s largest AI-powered economy.
That changes everything.
Some observations from the ground:
→ AI is moving beyond demos into real industrial deployment.
Factories, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, education and government dominated the conversation, not consumer chatbots.
→ Compute sovereignty is no longer optional.
China is investing across the entire AI stack, chips, networking, cloud infrastructure and software optimization, not simply because it’s faster, but because strategic independence matters.
→ Robotics has crossed an important threshold.
This year’s focus wasn’t robots dancing.
It was robots working.
Factories.
Warehouses.
Hotels.
Industrial inspection.
Real production environments.
Deployment matters more than demonstrations.
→ The ecosystem is much broader than many realise.
Everyone knows DeepSeek.
But also watch:
• Qwen
• Kimi
• GLM
• MiniMax
• Baichuan
China now has multiple world-class AI companies competing aggressively across different layers of the stack.
Competition creates speed.
→ China also wants to influence AI governance.
Technology is only part of the strategy.
Standards.
Rules.
International collaboration.
Countries that help shape global AI governance may influence AI adoption just as much as those building frontier models.
My biggest takeaway?
The AI race is no longer just about building smarter models.
It’s about building better infrastructure.
Better deployment.
Better ecosystems.
And ultimately…
A larger AI-powered economy.
The companies that create the most economic value, not necessarily the highest benchmark scores, will define the next decade.
That’s the signal I believe many people outside China are still underestimating.
China didn’t conquer industries with guns. It conquered them with price.
Sony made the first commercial lithium-ion battery in 1991. Japan led for years. Germany and Japan dominated solar panels. Europe owned steel. The U.S. once controlled rare earths.
Today China produces ~70% of the world’s batteries, the overwhelming majority of solar panels, and processes the critical materials that power everything modern. None of those positions were taken by invasion. They were taken by a deliberate four-step playbook that keeps repeating:
1. The state designates a sector as strategic and floods it with cheap capital, land, power, and tax breaks.
2. Chinese firms sell at razor-thin margins or outright losses, prices no private Western company can match for long.
3. Competitors bleed, close factories, or exit.
4. Once the field is clear, China sets the prices, the standards, and the rules.
The real power isn’t just mining. It’s refining and processing. China extracts only ~8% of the world’s copper but refines nearly half. It holds under 7% of lithium reserves yet processes ~80%. Cobalt refining sits around 77%. Rare-earth processing is closer to 90%. Own the mine if you want; China owns the factory that turns the rock into usable input. Without that step, the resource is just dirt.
Recent moves show the endgame. Export controls on antimony, gallium, and germanium demonstrated how quickly the tap can be turned off and how quickly it can be turned back on during trade talks. Control the chokepoint and you control the leverage. China already leads refining for 19 of the 20 most critical minerals. That is not a sector story. That is the foundation of modern manufacturing.
The same logic is now being applied to AI: release capable models widely and cheaply, force competitors to match unsustainable economics, and compete on scale and iteration speed rather than pure frontier breakthroughs.
The uncomfortable part for the West is the response. After decades of preaching pure free markets and non-intervention, governments are taking equity stakes in strategic firms, Intel, rare-earth processors, and others. The playbook that was criticized is being adopted, just later and with far less institutional patience.
This is not magic or conspiracy. It is sustained industrial policy executed at continental scale against fragmented, quarterly-earnings-driven competitors. Cheap steel was the training ground. Batteries and solar were the intermediate targets. Critical minerals processing is the current high ground. AI is the next layer because it will sit underneath every other industry.
The strategy works until it doesn’t, overcapacity, debt, demographic pressure, and eventual quality/innovation gaps can erode it. But ignoring the pattern while it is still working is the more immediate risk. Cheap today can become expensive, or unavailable, the day the supplier decides the relationship has changed.
This chart isn’t just growth…
It’s the early formation of a new financial system.
Real World Assets (RWA) onchain are exploding, quietly.
From a few billion to $20B+ in a short time.
And most people still aren’t paying attention
Look closer at what’s happening:
This isn’t just crypto speculation.
This is:
• Bonds moving onchain
• Precious metals being tokenized
• Private credit going digital
• Real estate becoming liquid
In other words…
Wall Street is being rebuilt on blockchain rails.
Why this matters:
1.Liquidity unlock
Assets that were once slow, illiquid, and gated
→ now tradable 24/7 globally
2.Access expansion
Institutions dominated these markets for decades
→ now anyone can participate
3.Efficiency leap
No middlemen, no delays, no friction
→ settlement becomes near-instant
And here’s the real alpha:
The biggest categories today are still traditional assets
(Bonds, credit, equities)
Crypto isn’t replacing them.
It’s absorbing them.
We are watching:
📈 TradFi → DeFi convergence
📈 Tokenization of trillions in assets
📈 Infrastructure being built in real time
But zoom out…
If $20B happened this fast…
What happens at $200B?
What happens at $2T?
Most people will wait for headlines.
Smart capital is already positioning.
Because once RWAs go mainstream…
It won’t feel like “crypto” anymore.
It will just be called:
The financial system.
The Ten Commandments of Investing in the Age of AI
Both San Eng and me did a firechat on AI at the Phuket AI Summit 2026 and one thing is clear:
The AI era isn’t coming.
It’s already here.
Here is a summary from what we discussed on what separates investors who will thrive from those who will be left behind in the age of AI:
1. Never Stop Learning
AI commoditizes knowledge. Judgment is the edge.
2. Prepare for a Multi-Polar World
AI power is shifting. Think beyond one market.
3. Be NAILAI or Be Irrelevant
AI-native + Lean is the new default.
4. Build Your AI Workforce
Winners deploy agents, not just hire people.
5. Own Your Data
No data = no moat.
6. Embrace East/West AI
The biggest opportunities sit in the intersection.
7. Software is Free. Distribution Wins
Product alone is no longer enough.
8. Invest in Builders
Ignore hype. Follow execution.
9. Brand is Your #1 Asset
Trust will be the scarcest currency.
10. Design for a Work-Optional Future
AI isn’t about working more, it’s about freedom.
Tokenized money is reshaping our financial landscape, representing traditional assets on the blockchain, think cash, deposits, and securities while enhancing accessibility and efficiency.
Benefits of Tokenized Assets:
1. Stability: Stablecoins offer a digital currency that's pegged to stable reserves, reducing volatility.
2. Efficiency: Instant transactions and reduced settlement times are game-changers for global finance.
3. Accessibility: Lower entry barriers enable diverse participation in financial markets.
4. Transparency: Every transaction is recorded on the blockchain, enhancing trust and security.
Future Uses:
Imagine a world where cross-border payments are seamless and instant, or where real estate transactions occur on smart contracts without layers of bureaucracy. From central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) to tokenized commodities, the possibilities are endless!

Tokenized Money: What It Really Means
Think of it as money getting a major software update, not becoming something new
The Big Picture
Tokenized money isn't about inventing a new kind of currency. It's about making existing money work faster, smarter, and 24/7. According to Cambridge University research, we're looking at an infrastructure upgrade, not a financial revolution.
What Actually Changes?
Speed becomes the superpower
Money will move in real-time, any time. No more waiting for bank processing windows or business days. This particularly transforms international payments, currently plagued by delays and money stuck in transit.
Automation replaces manual work
Through programmability, payments can execute automatically when conditions are met. Think of it like setting rules: "Pay the supplier only when goods are delivered and verified." This cuts out middlemen, reduces errors, and builds trust into the transaction itself.
The system becomes always-on
Banks currently close. Markets have hours. Tokenized money doesn't sleep. This unlocks entirely new ways for global businesses to operate.
The Real Challenges
Systems that don't talk to each other
The technology works. The problem? Different banks, blockchains, and countries use incompatible systems. It's like having a great phone that can't call half your contacts. Without solving this interoperability problem, tokenized money stays fragmented and limited.
Geography determines destiny
Different countries are writing different rules. Where you're based will increasingly determine which tokenized money systems you can access and how useful they are. This regulatory patchwork is actively shaping winners and losers.
The Future Landscape
We're not heading toward banks or crypto. We're heading toward banks and crypto, a hybrid system where traditional financial institutions run on tokenized infrastructure. It's convergence, not replacement.
The question isn't whether money gets tokenized. It's how fast interoperability gets solved and which jurisdictions create the most enabling environments.

Tokenization isn’t the Future, it’s the Present. And It’s About to Rewire Finance.
The hard part isn’t putting assets on-chain anymore, that’s mostly already solved. What’s coming next is the paradigm shift: turning real-world assets into programmable, tradable digital tokens that redefine capital markets.
Why this matters:
Unleashed Liquidity
Illiquid assets, real estate, private credit, art, infrastructure suddenly become tradable every second of every day. No more waiting for quarterly auctions or slow settlement windows. Fractional ownership democratizes access, widening the investor base beyond institutions.
Efficiency on Steroids
Blockchain clears out layers of intermediaries. Smart contracts automate compliance, settlement, and payouts — slashing costs and timeframes from days to near-instant.
Global Markets, Global Access
Tokenized assets can flow across borders with fewer frictions. Capital isn’t trapped behind local exchange hours or outdated infrastructure — it moves when and where markets demand it.
Programmability = New Financial Innovation
Ownership becomes code. Collateral, lending, derivatives, yield strategies, all become native composable products in a digital economy. We’re not just digitizing assets; we’re re-architecting what finance can be.
Institutional Momentum Is Real
Nobody’s laughing about this anymore. Heavyweights are experimenting with tokenized funds, bonds, and credit products, the first stepping stones toward multitrillion-dollar markets. Analysts even argue tokenization could account for double-digit percentages of global GDP by 2030.
Bottom line: Tokenization doesn’t replace traditional finance, it upgrades it. And the upgrade is already happening.
If you’re not thinking about tokenized assets in your business strategy right now… you’re already behind.
Tokenized Real-World Assets (RWAs) just crossed a major milestone
According to CryptoRank, tokenized RWAs have hit $21B in TVL and the composition tells an important story:
• US Treasury Debt: $9.1B (42.4%)
• Commodities: $3.7B (17.6%)
• Private Credit: $2.5B (11.7%)
• Institutional Alternative Funds: $2.2B (10.8%)
• Followed by corporate bonds, public equity, and real estate
This isn’t retail speculation anymore.
This is institutional capital choosing blockchain rails for yield, liquidity, and settlement efficiency.
The dominance of US Treasuries signals one thing clearly:
TradFi isn’t fighting tokenization, it’s using it.
Next phase won’t be about “whether RWAs work.”
It’ll be about who controls distribution, compliance, custody, and liquidity.
The infrastructure race has officially begun.
ARK Invest Big Ideas 2026: A $28 Trillion Digital Asset Market by 2030!
A few key takeaways worth paying attention to:
• Bitcoin as the anchor – ARK expects BTC to dominate, potentially accounting for ~70% of total market cap as a store of value and reserve asset.
• Smart contract platforms scale next – Ethereum, Solana, and other L1s could drive the remaining growth as financial infrastructure, not just speculative assets.
• ~60% CAGR – That’s not incremental growth. That’s structural adoption across finance, payments, capital markets, and real-world assets.
• Revenue, not just price – Smart contract networks are projected to generate meaningful on-chain revenue, shifting the narrative from “tokens” to “cash-flowing infrastructure.”
The big question isn’t if digital assets grow, it’s who captures the value:
•Base layer protocols
•Asset issuers (RWA, stablecoins, treasuries)
•Infrastructure builders
•Or institutions finally moving on-chain at scale
We’re likely still in the early innings of financial internet rails.
