Yes, one could define intelligence in this way, and one would be right. By this metric current AI is approximately 6 OOMs less intelligent than humans.
Your ancestors' evolutionary history did not prepare you for Python programming, yet you can learn to competently program in Python in a few hundreds of hours. An LRM needs the training data equivalent of ~1B hours (on top of all of its non-programming related training data).
Another dimension where which current AI is far below human level is test-time compute efficiency and energy efficiency. A human can solve an ARC-AGI-3 game by burning an amount of energy that would cost under $0.1 at retail electricity prices. Astra costs about $300-$400 per game. That's a 3-4 OOM gap.

When companies go public they must file paperwork disclosing their financials.
Doing so would expose the massive cash burn OpenAI is using. Therefore, Sam Altman can't go public but he also has run out of money.
Enter "whistle blower" Jacob Coxon.
It made no sense how an obscure nobody got 165 million views on his first X post saying AI could kill us all. Then he was on every news station within 48 hours, scaring the public.
This was a psyop to "regulate" the AI companies... aka give them government funding to "protect the public from the dangers of AI."

1. They're afraid of open weight models
2. They've hit a wall. They all the see the same thing.
There's no way in hell they are seeing ASI. They still ship Electron apps. If they were close to ASI then they could cure cancer
It all has to do with genAI being too weak architecturally and them unable to innovate to provide any actual value to society. But they still want power and money for themselves personally.

- AI data centers are massively unpopular
- slowing down AI development is a way to explain slowing progress, reduce spending, and try to regain some goodwill.
- This is an effort to save the IPO not humanity.

In a detailed Mastodon post, which I report in full in the comments, Andreas Thom presents several pieces of evidence suggesting that OpenAI may have trained Astra on conversations in which he and Gábor Kun were working on Gromov’s soficity conjecture, one of the ten problems OpenAI later announced Astra had solved.
I know Andreas. We met several times early in our careers. He is an exceptional mathematician, a leading expert on sofic and hyperlinear groups, and one of the most respected scholars in the field. He has spent two decades working on this problem.
If his account is correct, this is not a minor dispute over attribution. It would mean that unpublished human work was absorbed into a model and then presented to the world as a breakthrough by the model itself.
And if the allegations raised by Levent Alpöge, Tristan Buckmaster, and now Andreas Thom are all substantiated, we are no longer looking at isolated incidents.
We may be looking at one of the greatest intellectual scandals in the history of science.
AI is not discovering new mathematics.
AI is stealing human discovery.

However, our proofs differ significantly and even the precise results proved are different in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).
