Think of your least favorite presidential candidate. Now imagine s/he wins. Doesnโt limiting government power seem like a good idea?
Simultaneously positive, normative, and the battle cry of every power-hungry taxivist.
โIt is not for ____________ to decide if ____________ should pay tax.โ
Hello @elonmusk and @tylercowen ,
You have just decided to publicly attack our research, six days before the vote on the California billionaire wealth tax.
Your attempt to discredit our work and that of our numerous academic colleagues is pathetic.
Letโs take a look. ๐งต
A bill would subject insurers now operating in Kentuckyโs individual marketโAnthem, WellCare, and Molinaโto greater competition from insurers like Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and UnitedHealthcare, who already have provider networks in Kentucky.

Kentucky can cut health insurance premiums without spending a dime. Frankfort doesnโt need to wait on Congress. It just needs to get out of the way. ow.ly/muOZ5100myE @NKleinworth @mfcannon

Which probably suggests the problem is not hospitals or insurance companies (tho you gotta wonder about that value prop) or physicians or the man in the moon. The problem is Congress, a body not designed to oversee your UTIs and physical therapy visits.
Either way, it matters that so many academics with Harvard, MIT, Dartmouth, and similar affiliations could hardly imagine what did actually happen.
Particularly since, as I document in this post, I (and many others) literally predicted what happened.

In 2009, @TheAtlantic/@RonBrownstein gave ACA cost controls >2K words, citing Gruber & @lenmnichols.
Skeptics got the traditional, obligatory, parenthetical, formulaic dismissal: "Conservatives, of course, consider those projections unrealistic, but..."

I'd like to know whether the other surviving signers -- Henry Aaron, @Michael_Chernew, David Cutler, Judy Feder, Jonathan Gruber, @lenmnichols, Meredith Rosenthal, Jonathan Skinner, and Katherine Swartz -- agree with Goldman's assessment and/or share his regret.
