Good report here from @taiwanplusnews on transnational threats to Taiwanese-Australins and political influence and self-censorship about Taiwan in government, civil society and public institutions in Australia, something I know only too well.

Senate Estimates, questions on the cancellation of the ANU-Shandong University Joint Science College by foreign minister @SenatorWong.
ANU offers speculation on why the partnership established in 2019 might have been cancelled and ascribing responsibility to the minister.
The 12 pt plan proposes that billions of $ of advanced US and European military hardware will simply be transferred to Beijing.
Risible and pointing to Beijing's failure to develop a roadmap to achieve its professed goals, as I wrote here many years ago.

Excellent from Rowan Callick in @australian on the 12 point plan for a post-annexation Taiwan from the group of scholars in HK, a plan that would destroy Taiwanese society.
Notable use of the phrase "talent cultivation" 人才培育, a phrase at the core of PRC education policy and so highlighting how parts of Australian higher education are being socialised and integrated into the PRC system.
Australia: Australian tertiary education sinks deeper.

From @DesmondShum, on China disrupting LNG supply to Taiwan and smashing the global economy.
Australia is Taiwan's largest energy supplier, mostly LNG, so uniquely exposed to risk. And Taiwan has countermeasure options.
Every scenario converges on century-scale disaster.
China’s Taiwan Chokepoint: A Nightmare for Global Markets
Here’s my biggest takeaway from a conference I just attended in New York. More than a takeaway, it’s a scenario that genuinely spooked me.

The flip-side being how those trained in maths or physics overestimate how they personally understand the world, e.g. those scientists confidently explaining all of China after they went to a conference and visited a shopping mall in Shanghai.
If you’re trained in math or physics, you’re often prone to overestimate how well-understood the world is. You assume most things have been “worked out” mathematically to a far greater degree than they have been.
It can be shocking and slightly horrifying to realize how much of the world runs on vibes and rules of thumb. It seems impossible that things could keep running at all with so little theory.
This is the first step on the road to Hayekian wisdom, to realizing that most of the knowledge that runs the world exists in no individual human mind but rather in the interactions between them.

Aesthetics aside, a few thoughts about Rubio’s speech.
It was a doctrinal speech. Rubio re-founds the transatlantic alliance on shared civilisational descent rather than shared values, rules or a shared threat, and makes the US commitment to Europe implicitly conditional on Europe "reawakening" on those terms.
