To my 8-year old self... You waited with tremendous anticipation for a brand-new science fiction television series: Space: 1999. That debut in 1975 came on a warm summer evening after a wonderful day of swimming with family and friends--and the memories of the brilliantly colorful sunset are still in your 2026 self's memories. The show's marketing and advertising have prepared you for something VERY special. And there will be NO disappointments. This is not Star Trek, nor UFO, nor any other series seen to date. It will be unique and captivating. The "science" aspects of the show may not be plausible. Even at your young age, you will think about this. The horror elements will not always be easy to witness. The scripts will have issues, but remain largely entertaining and thought-provoking. I know you will see the potential of what the series could/can be... and that optimism added numerous layers of enjoyment to every viewing. And, yes, you enjoyed Year One as much as Year Two -- and still do. (I'm sorry to say the series has only two seasons, spanning 1975 to 1977.) You will delight at a Charlton comic book which you pay for yourself--and includes artwork by an ultra-talented artist named John Byrne. And yes, you still have your copy in near-mint condition. You will get an amazing Christmas present from Mom and Dad made by Mattel. And two versions of that epic stun gun. And someday, you will have models and treasured replicas of ships and accessories from the series. Decades later, you will own copies of the entire series, including some very special works which were created after the series. You will launch a website to honor the show (Space1999.org). You will be professionally published in an officially licensed Space: 1999 novel ("Shepherd Moon") by Powys Media AND you will publish your first Space: 1999 novel ("What Lies Beneath"). And God willing, you'll eventually publish your other novel ("What Lies Beyond"). And you'll own and read (and re-read) some of the best-ever Space: 1999 stories courtesy of Powys Media, including from two of your favorite authors whom you will call friends. You will befriend several of the cast and crew. In particular, at the MainMission:2000 convention in New York, you will be thoroughly delighted and humbled as Johnny Byrne comes up to you upon entering, recognizing you despite us never having met before, and immediately pulls you back into the green room... to sit closely together to engage directly with Christopher Penfold, Keith Wilson, Barry Morse (such a keen intellect!!) in a couple of hours of incredible, private group conversations as other actors and production members eventually join us, moreso to say hello, or stay briefly and join in. It will be the most surreal and wonderfully heartfelt, memorable moments, to which Johnny will lean over and share comments with you here and there, spanning a weekend where such conversations continue. Thus beginning a friendship which he initiated--and I cannot give full measure to how special that was. (You are very missed, Johnny. Can only imagine how much Sandy and the boys still miss you.) And the cool part? He touched the lives of MANY like that with his wit, wisdom and sincere charm. Truly a remarkable soul. Among other wonderful people, too. And the grandest revelation of all? As an adult, you're an Executive Producer on the 50th episode of Space: 1999! The episode is called "Return to Moonbase Alpha" which debuts at the Manchester: 1999 convention in the U.K. TODAY (13 Sep 2026)! I won't spoil what happens, as you have two years of episodic enjoyment in front of you. At this time, some of the actors and crew have sadly passed away in real life. But some of your television heroes (and their offspring) from Space: 1999 WILL be part of this legacy episode. And this story foretells more optimism for a series known for its horror elements--at least in this pivotal episode! The Future is Fantastic! #Space1999 #Breakaway #September13th #ReturnToMoonbaseAlpha

For the record, Poe (born Anne Decatur Danielewski) remains the one of THE most talented female singer/songwriter in my vast music collection, imho. Yes, that's incredibly high praise given the mega-talents past and present. Poe just lands perfectly for me. Whether it's "Hello" or "Haunted", she deserved (and deserves) so many, many more albums than were ever released to the mainstream. I say this publicly, as I really hope others discover her music. And truly hope she eventually find her way to releasing a third full album some day. No top ten lists from me. Just recognition of someone whom many still cherish. I definitely do. youtube.com/watch?v=IYuQoGei…

We have a saboteur onboard. Do we risk Dunsel to catch them? Join the adventure. #Amalgaverse
Second Mission: The Delivery (Part 2.5 – Persons of Interest) #Amalgaverse With all hands sheltered in the shielded core, the baryon sweep rolls across the Enterprise, a red glow moving section by section from the nacelles to the engineering hull, then finally up and over the saucer.  The subspace organisms burn and flake away into space, and the hull comes up clean. But the sweep has scorched the warp coils.  “Cooked,”says Scotty, “like a Burns Night haggis.”  He starts repairs while the Enterprise limps on through the corridor at reduced warp.  The margin on Zax’s delivery is shrinking by the hour. With the ship out of danger for the moment, the crew turns its attention to the passengers. Thor volunteers to ask Zax what makes him worth all this trouble.  Zax is delighted to tell him, launching into a series of personal reflections that provide absolutely no insight into his current circumstances but paint an excruciatingly detailed portrait of his childhood on Rigel and his strong opinions on Andorian theater.  Two hours in, Thor raises a hand and says: “Stop talking.”  Zax falls silent, mid-sentence.  “Thank you,”says Thor.  He leaves, later reporting: “I learned nothing.  Except that Andorian theater is apparently very derivative.” Aeryn Sun takes a seat across from Lucinda in Ten Forward and attempts to engage her in conversation.  But Lucinda neither confirms nor denies anything, and politely turns every question back on Aeryn. “She never sits with her back to the door,”notes Aeryn, “and always keeps her right hand free.  Clocks anyone who comes within three metras of her.  She’s ex-military.  I’d know.” Daniel shares a meal with Milo, expecting small talk, and ends up deep in a debate about the Ancients. “He made a couple of great points about ascension I’d never even considered,”marvels Daniel.  “And I’ve actually ascended!” G’Kar, no stranger to diplomats, finds Robespierre happy to discuss his distinguished career, including the three promotions he was unfairly denied.  Every question about the mission, however, meets a polite and immovable wall. “He reminds me of a Centauri I know,”says G’Kar.  “All smiles, and a vault of secrets behind them.” Then Carter calls you to engineering.  She and Data have been piecing together data recovered from Dunsel, who trundles nearby, cheerfully greeting the same wall panel for the third time. When the cruiser’s engines failed, Dunsel apparently ran a diagnostic and logged his findings before anyone could stop him.  The failure was no accident.  Someone sabotaged the engines and forced the cruiser out of warp, which is how the mercs knew exactly where to find it.  Then they tried to bury the evidence by wiping Dunsel’s memory stores.  The wipe damaged his neural network, which explains his odd behavior. Someone aboard that cruiser sabotaged their own ship.  And that someone is now aboard the Enterprise. What do you do first? A) Search the guest quarters.  Fast and direct, but a careful mole will have hidden anything worth finding, and you’ll have tipped your hand.  Also, a diplomat’s quarters are off limits, and Robespierre will make sure Starfleet hears about it. B) Request background checks from Starfleet Command.  They’ll be thorough but slow, and the answers may not arrive before the delivery. C) Surreptitiously question them about their whereabouts in the hour the cruiser was sabotaged, but don't tip your hand. D) Confront them.  Gather all four passengers, announce there’s a saboteur among them, and watch how each one reacts.  It might shake something loose, or it might drive the mole to ground. E) Use Dunsel as bait.  Let word slip that his memory can be fully restored, and watch who comes for him.  It could catch the mole in the act, but Dunsel may not survive a second attempt. Choose! [END OF ACT TWO] Recruit a crewmate. Share this with a fellow fan! Then TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS so that you don't miss a step on this mission! Actor Anton Phillips (#Space1999's Dr. Bob Mathias) is interviewed by Robert Wood. Highly recommended, especially for fans of Space: 1999's Year One! Well done, Mr. Wood! Btw, not mentioned here: Anton resumes his original role in the forthcoming #ReturnToMoonbaseAlpha! Fun fact: Anton's favorite episode was "Guardian of Piri". youtube.com/watch?v=xJN03cTW…

I met the man once. After having lunch with Michael Piller at Paramount, he walked me over to tour the sets for “Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” the latter of which was in production. I overheard an AD say Patrick Stewart had wrapped earlier, so I was surprised to see him still there. Michael explained that Stewart made it a point to read off-camera lines for his fellow cast members, including, in this particular case, a guest star. We were introduced, and I found Stewart’s demeanor to be a mix of commanding and casual. After complimenting him on his performances as Sejanus in “I, Claudius” and Lenin in “Fall of Eagles,” his posture noticeably changed. In fact, the director of the episode began ribbing him about how he was now “standing up straighter,” as Stewart wryly remarked in that sonorous voice: “There are a few of your kind that know my work from before.” When I tried to compliment him for hanging around for another performer’s coverage, he told me the story how, on his very first film, Rod Steiger insisted on doing the same for him, overriding a harried director who wanted the script supervisor to dispassionately read the dialogue so the scene could be banged out more quickly. We chatted for a few minutes about Shakespeare and mutual acquaintances before he returned to the scene underway. All the cast members from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” I’ve interacted with have been delightful and gracious. It seemed to be a harmonious ensemble in which they had cast not only the right actors for each role, but the right people. It started with the captain. 🎭

My friend, Sir Patrick Stewart, has passed away. The fact that I was able to truly call him a friend is insane in itself, but it’s true. He was a lifelong Huddersfield Town supporter, and through my work with them, we came together. I would bring him the newest gear, talk to his AMAZING wife Sunny (who loved him so much) and listen to stories. I got to shuttle the two of them around Sacramento one weekend, and it truly was an incredibly fun time. Over the years, we would talk every Saturday during soccer season. I would always make sure he was set up (he wasn’t Mr Tech), and then we would watch the match. Afterward, we would always have a 2 man postgame show on the phone, but he hosted and I listened. I could listen to him read the phone book. He was incredibly and unfailingly kind, always asking about me and my family, especially my USC daughter, as he lived in Los Angeles as well. I am so sad I didn’t have longer to spend with him, I’m sad I never got to talk to him when the team gets promoted, but I’m so incredibly grateful for the time I DID get to spend with the most unlikely friend I’ve ever had. I grew up idolizing Captain Picard, but the man behind the Captain was even better. I assure you of that. I will miss the phone ringing and him saying in his big, bellowing English accent: “WELL HELLO DAVID” Yeah, he always called me David, insisted I not call him “Sir”, but I always did. Because he deserved it. Most of all, I’ll just miss my friend. Be at peace, Sir Patrick. Thank you for everything. PS: I hate 2026
