"Usually we spotted our people as soon as they appeared from behind the bush mid field. If he turned from the bush towards our house, it's father. If not, it meant it was not father and that he would never come."
Film: Mirror (1975)

Back in the mid 80s, when Doordarshan was virtually our only window to television entertainment, a series began airing every Sunday, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". For thousands of Sherlock Holmes fans across the country, the lanky, charming man with slicked-back hair, a piercing gaze and razor sharp features soon became the very embodiment of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective.
The series remained remarkably faithful to its original source material, and Jeremy Brett, with his extraordinary portrayal, became and will forever remain the definitive Sherlock Holmes for generations of viewers who grew up watching him. Even the legendary Satyajit Ray was an admirer of Brett's portrayal.
Remembering the late, great Jeremy Brett on his birthday. And a heartfelt thanks to the good old DD for introducing us to this exceptionally gifted actor and giving us a Sherlock Holmes we would never forget.

Feeling pretty bad I used to make fun of older people for eating dinner early and being in bed before 9pm, that shit is lit

Some of you are suffering because you’re being relentlessly exposed to brain-breaking AI-generated prose but haven’t read a myth, fairy-tale or poem in years.
This historic foreword by Rabindranath Thakur for the first edition of Sukumar Ray's "Pagla Dashu" is a remarkable tribute. Tagore celebrates Ray's rare genius: a scientific, disciplined mind that created exquisitely structured absurdities and pure humour (অবিমিশ্র হাস্যরস)

It’s sort of remarkable that Jane Austen has become probably the central figure in English literature after Shakespeare, and arguably the most beloved. All the more so because she never traveled far from home; her life was largely lacking in drama. Early critics accused her of leading an insular existence, ignoring the great issues of the day and limiting the scope of her stories to the home. And yet, as Eudora Welty has noted, “The interesting situations of life can take place, and notably do, at home.” Such was Austen’s genius that within her limited sphere she saw the whole of human nature. All of life is contained within her six novels. She remains our greatest psychologist and one of our wisest philosophers. To read her books is a first step towards acquiring wisdom.
@kachatterjee I pointed out that he'd copied the video along with the caption verbatim without giving credit, and that slapping on a fair use disclaimer doesn't make it ok. At the very least, credit the original creator. The guy blocked me 🤣
