building skarbi, a calm wishlist & gift planning app sharing the messy product, design, and launch lessons as i go

Skarbi is finally live on the App Store. It started as a small idea to make gift planning calmer for families. Save gift ideas when they appear. Organize wishlists. Share them with people who ask, “What should we buy?” Let guests reserve gifts without installing the app. Feels unreal to finally share this. apps.apple.com/pt/app/skarbi…

pretty much locked in on the design on the right. now i need a vibe check on the actual app. here’s the lo-fi. no overthinking. real deal or straight-up bs? yay or nay?

didn’t expect so many of you to join yesterday’s discussion. thank you! most picked the right design as less ai slop, but i have a new idea 👀 round 2: yesterday’s winner (1) or my new design (2)?

Wait what???
Qwen3.8-27B at 144 tok/s on an M5 Max MacBook Pro ⚡ Meet Inco Splash: our open-source inference engine, built around the model and around Apple silicon. Up to 3× the decode speed of Ollama, 2× oMLX, and almost 4× when an agent fans out into sub-agents.

I’m working on a new app - which app design looks more ai slop to you? 1 or 2?

pet influencers market is huge, why nobody is building for it?

to all the working moms and dads trying to build an app or SaaS in those tiny pockets of free time between work, kids’ sports, school runs, endless birthday parties, and everything else life throws at you. i see you. i’m right there with you. keep going. even 20 minutes of progress counts. you can do this. i genuinely believe in you. ❤️

i asked x which screen looked better. x accidentally assigned me a phd in gift apps. 416k views later, i’ve analyzed 16 competitors, read their worst reviews, dug into my activation funnel, redesigned onboarding, redefined the jtbd, and mapped capture across mobile, web, chrome, email and chatgpt. turns out the problem wasn’t left or right. 😅
i've been re-designing my app and curious which design looks better: left or right?

you got an app idea and wanna validate it - would you go with obvious ai slop for design?

what makes @marclou so unique and trustworthy? being french? 😄 being radically candid about what works and what doesn’t? or simply having a success story people actually want to follow? a lot of builders probably want to wake up in his shoes. but how many would actually be willing to do what it took to get there? btw, read his book. worth it.

everyone seems to be trying deepseek v4.1 flash locally, so obviously i had to try it too. running a 552B MoE model on my macbook pro m4 with 24GB ram is still kinda insane. some numbers from my run: ~426GB on disk ~15GB ram peak 1M context ~0.55 t/s not exactly fast, but the fact that this runs locally on a laptop at all is pretty wild. now i want to see how close i can get to 1 t/s.

900+ people argued over my app redesign yesterday. the interesting part wasn’t which one won. it was why. right felt cleaner and easier to use. left had more personality, but some people said it looked AI-generated. so i’m making a third version. clarity of the right. personality of the left. hopefully better than both. i’ll share it soon.

skarbi is ios-only today. i’m considering building android and web next. would either of those actually make you more likely to try the app? if yes, which one: android or web?

hey @sama, i know you’re putting a lot of work into making ChatGPT more useful and natural to interact with, and i genuinely love where it’s going. i use it a lot as a companion to my own thoughts. but one thing i still really miss is making it almost invisible. i know OpenAI is thinking about hardware that could stay with you and act as an AI companion. but honestly, for now i’d already be happy if the ChatGPT app could just stay in a standby listening mode through my headphones. when i’m driving, doing things around the house, walking, etc., i have tons of thoughts i’d love to immediately talk through with ChatGPT, validate an idea, or give it something to work on. i don’t want to pull out my phone, open the app, start a conversation, then repeat the whole process 10 minutes later. i want it to just be there. listening when i enable it, talking naturally when needed, and otherwise staying out of the way. not sure this message will ever reach you, but leaving it here just in case :)

got some really good feedback on my app redesign yesterday. thank you to everyone who commented. opinions were pretty split, including a few very fair “ai slop” comments 😅 harsh, but useful. so, i need inspiration. what’s one app you think has exceptional design, and one word for why?
