The protest was triggered by what they described as worsening education system, due to a ‘tight’ FG budget that resulted to 3,254 teacher job cut, translating to absent teachers without replacement or substitute., Skyrocketed cancelled classes, with poor ventilation, poor infrastructure and poor maintenance, with long school days from 8am-6pm, that gives them no time for homework or for themselves. Interestingly, France’s education budget, the enseignement scolaire is the highest in its bill. 2025; €64.3bn. 2026; €64.5bn (+0.26%). The proposed 2027 budget is €65.5bn a massive (+1.7%). The government argued that, the number of people going to school has dropped, and projected to futher fall by 180,000; that’s why they cut the teachers. The students rejected the explanation, saying the increment (1.7%) is below inflation rate of (3.4%); Therefore, protest. It slowly began late September in Paris, now it spilled into October and other cities. Now turned into a riot, over 5,000 students have been arrested, as they violently clashed with policemen.
