I uncovered that the American Association of Immunologists, the field's leading society, is sharply divided over Prop 38, a $8.4 billion California ballot measure to fund the field. @statnews exclusive based on internal AAI emails

I've done a bit of personal writing over the years. Today I published by far the most difficult essay I've written. On @STATNews, I share the story of my mother, Regina Bosch. She was brilliant--three Ivy degrees--and funny and charismatic. She was also seriously mentally ill.

An inestimable, incalculable loss to public health and science journalism. Helen was the dean.

I'm getting an extraordinary — an unanswerable — number of questions on Twitter and through email. I cannot see them all — my Twitter feed is like a tsunami — and I cannot answer them all.
But please know this: We're going to get through this. Really.
.@HelenBranswell was, is, a giant. What heartbreak.
Deeply saddened by the passing of @HelenBranswell, a journalist of integrity and professionalism. Throughout her career, Helen demonstrated an unwavering commitment to evidence, science and truth, helping the public understand some of the most complex and consequential health challenges of our time. At a moment when misinformation competes with facts, her reporting was a trusted source of clarity, honesty and insight.
We at @WHO were privileged to work with Helen over many years, whether through one-on-one interviews or the hundreds of press conferences she attended during COVID-19 and beyond. Her questions were always informed, thoughtful and fair, reflecting a deep commitment to helping the public understand the facts and their implications for health.
On behalf of WHO, I extend my sincere condolences to Helen’s family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.

My only words are: THANK YOU. Thank you to anyone who read this book, supported it, shared it with friends.
It's a community effort, for us, by us.

BIG MAHA SUMMIT today at Waldorf-Astoria. RFK Jr and Vance will speak. I was denied a press credential due to “limited space.” Here I am, having been turned away. I’m 5 feet tall. I don’t take up that much space.

NEW: Before reporters in the White House, Trump and aides claimed every U.S. state wanted to participate in a Medicaid initiative aimed at lowering drug prices.
That, @_daniel_payne reports, isn't quite right.

People are dragging Nikole Hannah-Jones for this, but I think this piece is incredible. Trying to live your values, discovering it’s not working and having an open conversation with your kid about that is eminently laudable — Pubbing about it even more so. nytimes.com/2026/09/20/magaz…
This incredible essay by @nhannahjones will stay with me for a long time. It is enraging the kind of personal (or ideological) sacrifices asked of Black families, when the responsibility to desegregate (by race, class, ability) should fall on white people. nytimes.com/2026/09/20/magaz…

Absolutely beautiful, honest, heart-filling piece on the role of the Boys Club of NY on young men, by @missanabeem @statnews.
No surprise that they need friends, mentors, and a place to meet up.
All kids do.

This is an incredibly powerful and beautifully written piece by @esilverman11. I'm crying in a South Dakota bar, and there's nothing to be done about that. Thank you for writing this.
