Natural disasters aren’t natural. A storm doesn’t decide who has insurance, savings or somewhere safe to go. People built the systems that leave others exposed. People can change them.

This man BELOW who has been elected to the Israeli parliament expresses views which are not uncommon in Israel
They are like the views expressed by many in Nazi Germany about the Jews
The IHRA definition of antisemitism forbids equating Israel's behaviour with Nazi behaviour
BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN IT IS APPROPRIATE?
This govt want to force schools to adopt the profoundly worrying IHRA definition

Andy Burnham promised "a new economic model" in July. John Healey's first Budget leaves the fiscal rules untouched and follows the pattern the OBR has flagged since 2010, with households footing the bill.

Superb piece by @fionaharvey on how narrow conventional #economics is at the root of our failure adequately to tackle the climate crisis. The #Stern report convincingly exploded it 20 years ago, but how governments still follow the old discredited ways.

I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave

Hayek was a midwit snake-oil salesman of the first order. Put simply, the legally established negative liberty he champions permits the unequal ability of uncoerced individuals to achieve a very narrow and often unethically gained type of success in his ridiculously idealised 'market'. Then they monopolise market sectors and buy their way into power to exploit and coerce others. Result - the constant renewal and reproduction of the 1% revolving-door oligarchy. Tent cities getting bigger but GDP looks good and we've got AI! Hordes of unthinking wannabe strivers have been persuaded that this is the timeless moral and natural order of things.

Today Israeli authorities barred me and other European elected representatives from entering the West Bank to meet Palestinian students and civil society leaders, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
We knew that by crossing into the occupied Palestinian territories, we risked being detained, interrogated and turned away by Israeli authorities. And that, alas, is exactly what happened.
For more than eight hours, we were held, interrogated and made to feel as though we had done something wrong simply by attempting to enter.
The simple truth is we had done nothing wrong. We went to show our support for the Palestinian people and highlight the terrible injustice and violence being perpetrated against them. We want to ensure that people back home do not look away from the reality of what is happening.
Ultimately, we went to show solidarity. But we left with an even greater determination to speak out. We will not be silenced, and we will not look away. None of us should.

Taxing an extra 2% of the wealth of people like Musk will not stop him doing things like this. 👇🏻
If the tax doesn’t curb power - it’s pointless.

The question here is - does Rachel actually know she's talking complete nonsense or does she believe it? Money that doesn't exist?? Issuing public or private credit creates money, a fact confimed by that wacky fringe anarcho-commie organisation called the Bank of England.
“Next year he actually has to find the money that doesn’t exist.”
“There are things the Government can do that aren’t just about tax.”

When you don’t understand the purpose of taxes you end up with politicians who implement bad policies and who publish economically illiterate garbage like this. Taxes don’t fund govt spending.

What most people don't know: when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it.
Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels.
Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%.
Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%.

Healey is lying. As Chancellor he surely knows that not one £ the government spends comes from taxes. Yet he hides behind Thatcher’s great lie in order to kick the renewable can further down the road.
The establishment has been pulling this con for near 50 years.

Britain has been exposed to volatile international energy markets for far too long.
That is why Labour is establishing a new Energy Wealth Fund which will reinvest tax revenues from North Sea oil and gas into renewable and low carbon projects to support the clean energy transition and bring bills down for good.

A national home retrofit programme would deliver long term benefits and resilience.
The @TheGreenParty's new economic policy and fiscal framework would assess the viability of such a programme very differently.
It's far more responsible to understand the real factors at play.
Insulating Britain’s homes and investing in heat pumps would do more to cut the cost of living, create jobs and boost the UK’s economy than drilling for new oil @e3g
