East Africa’s art market is reaching new heights. A major auction at Circle Art Gallery in Nairobi generated more than $356,000, with strong bidding for artists from Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique. Several works sold well above their estimates, including a painting by Edward Saidi Tingatinga that set a new world auction record for the Tanzanian artist. With 90% of the 68 lots sold, the results point to growing collector interest and a strengthening secondary market for modern and contemporary East African art. 👉 Read the full article and discover the artists and sales shaping the rise of East Africa’s art market: shorturl.at/LTnpw #AfricanArt #Art #Nairobi #Kenya #ArtMarket #Tingatinga

As El Niño hits the Horn of Africa, low rainfall in Eritrea is affecting crops and livestock. Early action will save lives. I’ve allocated $3.5M from UN's Global Emergency Fund CERF to help partners deliver food, nutrition, healthcare and water, complementing government efforts.

Humbled to have my first artist residency be international, and based in a city I’ve been developing a relationship with over the past several months. Excited to share more as I develop my work — ambitiously seeking to use cactus fruit to connect Mexico to my roots in Eritrea.

Rosalía getting rejected by the Abyssinian Baptist Church is so random but so NYC

Unsubstantiated claims of Eritrea invading Ethiopia while we have been seeing years of expansionist rhetoric from Ethiopia disregarding sovereign borders with the explicit intention to take Eritrea's Port of Assab. Article after article saying "may have" invaded #SayNoToWar

You can spend years trying to become impressive enough to never get rejected again. Or, you can accept that rejection is part of being seen, and go after the life you really want.

In an age dominated by technology, in which efficiency and profit often take precedence, it is so important that we continue to cultivate a spirit of contemplation and allow time and space for beauty. Such an attitude will greatly help humanity, especially young people, to discover the ability of art to uplift and reveal the depths of the human spirit and our openness to the divine. Contemplation presents a marvelous opportunity to encounter the God who is Beauty.
