Multiply that across Europe, East Asia, and the Americas, and we're not just losing people, but irreplaceable ways of understanding the world. Why did this happen? We built a society where having children became prohibitively expensive and professionally suicidal. Housing costs exploded, childcare costs a salary, women choose between career suicide and childlessness because we refuse to make both possible. Children transformed from blessings to burdens, from natural to optional. For the first time in human history, prosperous, peaceful societies are choosing extinction due to hardships, and that's not progress, that's a system failure. However, the solutions do exist: affordable housing, universal childcare, flexible work, real parental leave, tax policies that recognize raising children as a public good. Countries like Hungary and South Korea are trying, with mixed results… What's missing is urgency. Poland's 1.1 fertility rate isn't a statistic, it's an alarm.
