today, we introduce a little mischief to the world. for four years, we’ve been brewing real brain cells on electrodes to understand how they compute. now, we’ve turned those discoveries into a video model anyone can use. from 0.5Β’ a second, mischief 1 is at least 5x faster than its base and the cheapest image-to-video model on @fal and @OpenRouter. soon to be on @awscloud marketplace. it’s not a delusion anymore. biocompute is real, commercial and this is just the beginning. happy halloween.

The cybersecurity landscape has dramatically changed. Being able to build up your defenses using AI, while keeping that research private, is now critically important – and we want to make that available to everyone. We just rolled out NEAR AI Cybersecurity program: access to uncensored models for security scanning. All your code, prompts, and findings stay private. Everything runs inside secure enclaves and is encrypted end-to-end.
Private, uncensored AI for security work. It runs in secure enclaves, so your vulnerabilities stay yours. Live today on NEAR AI Cloud.

After taking a break from being a podcast guest, I'm back. I have one month to deliver a final manuscript of my 8th book to my publisher (Harriman). It is hard, fun and rewarding. I have written before on my 25iQ blog about writing and publishing a book. 25iq.com/2017/09/22/a-half-d…

This is pretty extraordinary, and on an open model to boot.
Introducing Samaya Sterling, our new model post-trained for challenging financial research that outperforms the frontier! Sterling started off as a two person research effort to see if we could increase efficiency in agentic orchestration. To our surprise we were able to post-train a much smaller model (Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a 30B mixture-of-experts model with 3B active parameters) to greater accuracy (58.9% vs 55.9% on FrontierFinance) and 11x lower cost ($0.61 vs $6.89) than Claude Fable 5.1, the best performing frontier model. We did this via a four-stage training process, two stages of SFT where the model first learns to research with our financial tools and how to construct a good agentic research strategy. The second two stages are RL, with an offline GRPO stage where the model further hones its research strategy from eight teachers that provide diverse approaches, and an online GRPO stage where the model can make end to end attempts and learn from its mistakes. We see substantial gains from the co-adaptation of the model and harness through post-training, both through the model learning to effectively use the high-quality financial tools, and better compaction approaches that let even a small model execute on longer and deeper research. We are exploring multiple follow-up directions, from multi-agent research swarms using this small model, to training firm-specific models to encode unique judgement, to training a larger model, where early results show even greater gains from the training process. The full research is linked below!

$AKT community passed the proposal in record time. Akash moving to Solana is now official. (There is still a small chance voters can change their decision but unlikely) mintscan.io/akash/proposals/…

In 2007, a 16-year-old from Guilin named Hong Wang missed the single place Peking University's maths department held for her province, so she enrolled in earth sciences instead. She transferred into maths a year later, then doubted she was good enough for research and left to spend a semester at an architecture firm in Paris. She came back to mathematics. In February 2025, she and Joshua Zahl posted a 127-page proof of the Kakeya conjecture in three dimensions, which grew out of a 1917 question about how little space a needle needs to turn and point in every direction. In July 2026, at 35, she won the Fields Medal, only the third woman to receive it. She once doubted she could do research. Her proof settled a problem that had defeated several Fields medalists.

idgaf about winning before the finish line. i do care deeply about supporting founders to build durably commercial and economically sustainable business that will change global systems and redefine the finish line
Lonely and Right Keynes said picking stocks is like a newspaper beauty contest: you don't win by picking the prettiest face, you win by picking the face everyone else picks. Ninety years on, that's still the most honest description of my job which is sad because I think I know beauty. Now the tortoise and the hare. Everyone tells it as "slow and steady wins." That's not the story. The story is that for 90% of the race the tortoise is losing. Badly. In public. The hare is at the cocktail party. The hare's LPs are thrilled. The hare is on the list. Then the tortoise wins at the end, and we tell it to children, and we leave out that the tortoise spent the whole race feeling like a fool. So be honest. Would you rather win 90% of the race and lose at the end, or lose 90% of the race and win? Counted in years of your one life, the hare has the better deal. That is venture capital right now. The young partner in a venture firm would rather be the hare and jump to the next firm than be lonely as the tortoise. The consensus deal is the hare. Expensive, crowded, fun. Everyone at dinner knows the company. The marks go up, the capital piles in, and for years you feel like you're winning, right up to the moment the music stops, which is the only moment that counts. The contrarian deal is the tortoise. It pays only if you're contrarian and right, and you find out which at the end. Until then you're on no list, nobody at dinner has heard of your company, and you look slow. Early and wrong feel identical from the inside. That's the whole difficulty. So the real trade was never consensus versus contrarian. It's finding the thing that's contrarian today and consensus in eighteen months. Buy the tortoise, then watch it grow legs. Cheap entry, then the multiple expands when the crowd arrives, and then you're back at the cocktail party being congratulated on your foresight by the same people who thought you were lonely. Lonely and right, then crowded and rich. That's the business. Finding the ugly duckling that's going to become a swan - that's where the alpha is. What's contrarian now that I think flips? Held loosely: 1. Outcomes, not tokens. Everyone is selling the enterprise intelligence by the pound. The enterprise doesn't want intelligence. It wants the claim processed, the invoice reconciled, the ticket closed. One in five companies has AI in production; one in fourteen has rebuilt the factory. Whoever sells the other thirteen a finished outcome, priced like a result and not like a utility bill, wins the decade. It looks like a services business on the way in. So did Amazon. 2. Security that gets paid for the breach that didn't happen. The attackers have agents now, so every company on earth is about to be robbed at machine speed, and the defender's product is still a dashboard. The bet is the company that stops selling the dashboard and starts selling the result: we handle it, we're on the hook. Security and insurance were always the same business. Someone is about to notice. 3. The specialist labs. Not the frontier, which is consensus at a trillion, but the labs that do one thing for one industry at a hundredth the price. 4. The boring half of the physical world. Robotics is loud. Inspection, maintenance and warehouses are quiet, and the revenue lives in the quiet part. I may be wrong about all four. That's rather the point. If I were sure, so would everyone, and then it wouldn't be a trade. It'd be a cocktail party.

Go Golden Gophers!!
30 students. 90 minutes. One awesome Deploy Night πŸš€ Huge shoutout to @Solo_Gopher for bringing Akash to the University of Minnesota! Most students came in as complete beginners & left having deployed their first app on Akash. Love seeing our ambassadors take the initiative, bring people together, and get more students building. More of this!! πŸ”₯
