Possibly the best and most honest TED talk.
Ten million people have watched a comedian accidentally destroy the entire TED talk industry. He filmed the talk once at TEDxNewYork in 2014 and openly admitted he had nothing to say. Speaking coaches charge $5,000 to teach the exact tricks he used in 6 minutes to say nothing at all. His name is Will Stephen. He is a comedian from Late Night with Seth Meyers who was invited to give a real TED talk and used it to prove the format is a costume anyone can wear. Every TED speaker opens with a question, tells a personal story, cites a scientist, and shows a chart. Stephen did all four in six minutes with zero content. His entire formula fits on a napkin. Gesture with both hands. Ask the audience a question anyone can answer. Tell a mildly embarrassing story so they say aww. Point to a stranger on a slide and call them important. Flash a chart of random numbers. Wear glasses with no lenses. The audience will think you are brilliant. That last trick alone has probably cost the public speaking coaching industry a hundred million dollars in sessions clients should have skipped. "If you watched me on YouTube with the sound off, you would think I was a genius." That is Will Stephen on the TED stage, three minutes into the talk he was paid to give. He wasn't lying. Executives pay $15,000 for a keynote coach and still open with a joke the room never laughs at. Founders rehearse their pitch for weeks and still sound like Stephen at minute four, saying "wagga wah, gabba gabba" with authority. The talk is free on YouTube. The method is written across every TED speaker's playbook for ten years. Stephen still writes for Seth Meyers. Almost none of the ten million viewers have stopped nodding at empty slides since. The formula is free. The willingness to actually say something before your next keynote, pitch, or townhall is the entire edge.

I was one of your harshest critic when you announced that you’re dropping react native. I was certain that there will be no noticeable difference. Just yesterday, my wife said “The new Shopify app is awesome. It’s soo much faster and smoother.” Was a hard pill to swallow as a die hard react native fan. Good job 🫶🏽

We launched Next Generation Events in developer preview back in May. A ton has shipped since then: stable API versions, richer payloads, and 16 more topics. Events is now generally available, so I figured it’d be fun to speedrun through it all. If you tried it in May, take another look!

We took a big leap: Bye bye React, and hello Remix 3! Working with the Remix team has been a blast, and this new version delivers exactly what we need: a more browser-native experience with less re-renders, hydration, javascript, and no implicit side effects. remix.run/

Our mobile team is cooking! 🔥
🚀 One of the coolest things I've built recently at @Shopify is Live Preview for remote mobile development! Our AI agents can build and test iOS and Android apps remotely, and now anyone can jump into their running simulator or emulator directly from a browser! No local setup, no builds to install, just share a link and try it yourself! 🤯

We're making Shopify's mobile apps self-healing. Agents watch production 24x7 for new crashes, reproduce them, write and verify a fix, then generate a short video explaining the root cause and the fix. Much faster to digest than the usual wall of text. An engineer then just reviews and ships it.

Three years ago today: 1,200 murdered. 251 taken hostage. The deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Since then, antisemitism hasn't returned. It's exploded. Attacked in the streets. Hunted on campuses. Murdered from Washington to Sydney. For one reason: being Jewish. October 7th didn't create this hatred, it revealed it. I'm raising my daughters to be proud Jews. Loud. Visible. Unapologetic. We will not hide 💙

As part of our commitment to a smooth transition for Shopify's React Native open source libraries, we've transferred ownership of React Native Skia to @wcandillon. We'll continue sponsoring its development through the end of the year. Excited to see where he takes it next!

When I built @kotn’s first store 12 years ago, I knew how to code and it still took me two weeks just to get to something OK, years to get to something I liked. We built the tool I wish I had back then. Here’s Canvas.

Next Gen Events are a much more efficient solution. Excellent job by the team building this out. 👊
Next Gen Events are now stable in 2026-10! Choose your triggers, shape your payloads with GraphQL, and filter before delivery. During developer preview, partners have already cut their daily deliveries: - @StoqApp: 6M → 500K - @ablestarco : 10M → 200K - @zapiet : 500K → 10K - Stockful : 136K → 50K - @abrapromotions : 1.7M → 20K That's millions of deliveries their apps no longer need to process. Less compute spent handling irrelevant updates, less filtering logic to maintain, and simpler apps to build. shopify.dev/changelog/blog/n…

The two questions we got most after announcing Shopify's move to native: 1. Why didn't we migrate to RN's New Architecture? (We did. Every app except Shop.) 2. Why not KMP? I answered both in @GergelyOrosz's latest deep dive 👇 newsletter.pragmaticengineer…

I’m hiring a Mobile AppSec engineer at Shopify, based in Canada or the US. Small team, apps used by millions, lots of code shipping every week. You’ll have access to frontier models and build tools to find and fix vulnerabilities before they ship. If that sounds like your kind of work, DM me.

Game changer for reliable output.
It doesn’t matter how good an AI model is if it can’t test its work quickly and reliably. That’s especially hard on mobile. Traditional approaches rely on screenshots or the accessibility tree, making feedback slow and brittle. Agents can change code in seconds, then spend minutes trying to test it. In our new mobile apps, business logic runs headlessly. Agents can inspect state, navigate, and act through a CLI in milliseconds, without a simulator. When they need to test the app, the same CLI drives the simulator directly. The video is real time.

Shopify is going native, but we want to make this a clean transition for our open source React Native libraries. React Native Skia: We’ll sponsor it through the end of 2026. @wcandillon is going to keep it going after that under a new name. FlashList: We’ll keep fixing critical compatibility issues while we find it a long-term home. We’re already talking to several companies about taking on stewardship. It gets around 2M downloads a week, so we want to get this right. If your company is interested too, DM me. Restyle: We’ll keep it working through the end of 2026, then archive it. Happy to help anyone who wants to take it forward.

This should be pushed far and wide. Watched in every college class in the U.S. Thank you @billmaher The moral confusion is gross. "It is not a genocide, it is a counterattack in a war...Gaza equals genocide is a lie, an easily provable lie (as I have argued from first hand observations in Gaza). The fact that so many democrats go along with it is to me the party's worse moment since they undid reconstruction after the civil war...words have meaning...genocide, kill or try to kill an entire people, you can't just change the definition of genocide to mean counterattack in a war where people including civilians die, that's every war..."
