Many people think the Apollo Lunar Module was a small, fragile craft — but this image puts its true scale into perspective.
Standing over 7 meters tall and weighing more than 15 tons fully fueled, the Lunar Module was no toy. It was a two-stage spacecraft designed to land on the Moon, support two astronauts for up to 3 days, and then launch them back into lunar orbit to rendezvous with the Command Module.
Its unusual, skeletal appearance wasn’t a flaw — it was optimized for spaceflight only, never meant to fly through Earth’s atmosphere. Function over form.
A true engineering marvel of the 1960s.
