Sheffield Wednesday Football Club are delighted to confirm the appointment of Dave Challinor as the club's new First-Team Manager. Arriving at Hillsborough on a contract until summer 2030, the 51-year-old begins the next chapter of an immensely successful managerial career spanning more than 850 games. During that time, Challinor has secured multiple promotions and established a reputation for building winning teams, developing players and consistently delivering high standards. His teams have been characterised by competitiveness and continuous improvement, with Challinor demonstrating an ability to evolve his methods and maximise the potential of his players. His appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process involving multiple candidates and has received the unanimous support of the club's Board of Directors. He will be supported by First-Team Assistant Coaches Clint Hill and Antony Sweeney, who will work alongside the club's existing coaching and performance staff. Together, the new coaching appointments represent an important step in Wednesday's long-term football strategy, focused on establishing a recognisable playing identity and building a team capable of sustained growth and success. Sporting Director Simon Wilson said: "Dave was the outstanding candidate following a detailed and comprehensive recruitment process, and we're delighted to welcome him to Sheffield Wednesday. "His record speaks for itself. He is a proven winner who has consistently built successful teams, improved players and demonstrated an ability to adapt and evolve throughout his career. "Dave sets exceptionally high standards and challenges everyone around him to improve. He has a proven ability to get more from individuals and teams, and that mentality is central to what we want to establish here. "We believe there is significant potential within our squad. Our focus is on developing a recognisable playing identity, greater consistency and a team that competes with intensity, organisation and attacking intent. "Dave understands both the ambition of this club and the work required to achieve it. His appointment is about building something sustainable, not pursuing a short-term solution." Chairman David Storch added: “Dave’s appointment has the unanimous support of our Board, following a thorough recruitment process expertly led by Simon Wilson, and reflects our shared commitment to the long-term future of Sheffield Wednesday. “We are still at the beginning of an ambitious journey. Significant progress has been made in rebuilding the foundations of the club, but we recognise there is much more work ahead. “Our ambitions remain clear, but our progress cannot be defined by the outcome of one moment or season alone. We must establish a clear footballing identity, consistent standards and a culture capable of delivering sustained success. “That journey will require patience, resilience and collective commitment. Progress will not always be straightforward, but we believe Dave has the leadership, character and determination to help us achieve our ambitions. “We are delighted to welcome Dave to Sheffield Wednesday and look forward to building the next chapter together.”

🚨‼️ URGENT – OLIVER’S WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VAN HAS BEEN STOLEN!!!! ‼️🚨 I genuinely cannot believe I’m even having to write this after EVERYTHING we’ve been through lately!!! 😭💔 Rory managed to take Oliver to the Sheffield Wednesday match this afternoon, just to try and cheer him up and give him something nice to look forward to, and they’ve come out to discover that OLIVER’S WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VAN HAS BEEN STOLEN!!!! 📍 WHERE: Wordsworth Avenue, where it meets Herries Road, Sheffield. 🕐 WHEN: Parked at approximately 1pm today (Sunday 1st November) and discovered missing at around 4pm. And as if having our van stolen isn’t bad enough, this isn’t just any vehicle. This is Oliver’s wheelchair accessible transport. His independence. His ability to get out and about. 💔 The absolute heartlessness of leaving a severely disabled young man completely STRANDED, unable to simply jump in another car or get a normal taxi, is beyond anything I can put into words!!! It’s taken HOURS to find a wheelchair accessible taxi, which Rory and Oliver are now waiting for just to be able to get home. 😭 🚨 PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE THIS POST FAR AND WIDE! 🚨 We need to make this van TOO HOT TO HANDLE! Please keep your eyes open, particularly around Sheffield and the surrounding areas. If anyone has seen anything, knows anything or spots the van, PLEASE contact me, Rory Ellison or the police on 101. After everything Oliver has already endured, he really, REALLY did not deserve this. 💔 PLEASE SHARE – EVERY SINGLE SHARE COULD HELP US GET OLIVER’S VAN BACK! 🙏🏻❤️h

Why do people not like Challinor? Has a good record with a similar level of club and clearly knows what he’s doing. Why are we having a go at him already? 😭

As much as I wasn’t a fan of the abuse toward Pedersen, and as much as I probably did join in at times, he certainly doesn’t deserve anymore now that what we all wanted is done and dusted I fear it was what was needed for it to happen, but now that it’s happened, I wish him well

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club confirms that Henrik Pedersen has left the club with immediate effect. Henrik led the first team through an exceptional period in the club's history, providing stability and leadership during a time of significant uncertainty and change. The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Henrik for his contribution and wishes him every success in the future. Sporting Director Simon Wilson said: “First and foremost, I want to thank Henrik for his professionalism, commitment and contribution during an exceptionally challenging period for Sheffield Wednesday. “We knew the start of this season would be difficult due to the scale of change across the club, but our expectation was always that we would develop as the season progressed, establishing a recognisable style of play and greater consistency in our performances. “Although we have accumulated points, we haven’t seen enough progress in those areas. We believe making a change now gives us the best opportunity to establish those foundations and build towards the second half of the season and beyond. “We remain ambitious about what we can achieve this campaign, and our focus remains on building a Sheffield Wednesday team with a clear identity, capable of delivering sustained improvement and long-term success.” Matt Hamshaw will take interim charge of the first team while the club undertakes the process of appointing its next Head Coach. The club will provide further updates when appropriate.
