That moment of pure satisfaction when you finally hit your morph stance perfectly. 😤
The Power Rangers Preservation Project Presents Forever Red Morphs: Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver!
@jdfffn runs through the morph call for Zeo Ranger V before his suit actor steps in for the power pose. Given Jason’s birthday yesterday, we thought it was the perfect occasion to share lost footage from his morph — which we think gives a heartwarming glimpse back at the man who gave us the legend as he works to get his morph just right.

🎵 Some pumpkin rappin’ is a’bout to happen! 🎵 Carving some time out of Halloween Eve for Pumpkin Rapper’s Season 2 / TV Guide Press Shot. 🎃
The gourd-eous Zyu2 creation remains one of the most memorable monsters in Ranger History, having been homegrown exclusively for Power Rangers by the Sentai Team in Japan. His catchy musical riffs and clever designs stuck with fans far beyond his one-off focal episode — reappearing in Countdown to Destruction and becoming immortalized in Hasbro’s Lightning Collection toyline.

The dearly departed duo of Jason David Frank as Transylvanian “Tomacula” and Richard Genelle as Ernie’s Renfield analogue [creature] feature in Adam’s monstrous nightmare.
This sequence from Zeo’s Halloween episode was aired in black and white, but you can appreciate it here in full spooktacular color. The scene revamped the Juice Bar set with a castle motif befitting Tomacula.

Terra Venture GSA ID Card Prop from Lost Galaxy. 🌌
This prop — or one just like it — was seen used by Kai Chen [Archie Kao] to try and gain access to Terra Venture’s Navigation Room via the keypad and scanner; which was disabled by Matthew, a stowaway from Earth trying to stop the ship so he could return home.
The foil-printed prop is the size of a standard business card and features the GSA [Galactic Space Alliance] logo. The stats, ID number, and barcode on this card are pre-printed and presumably match Kai’s ID, although the footage being shot in standard definition makes it difficult to screen-match. The card template includes a space for a photo; if there was a small photo attached at any point, it’s since become unattached.

Early Sketch Concept for the Lightspeed Jackets.
This version of the government-issued jackets skewed closer to the lightweight nature of GoGo V’s fluorescent orange windbreakers, coloring these would-be adapted Ranger versions teal and cinching them at the waist to give them more shape. The evolution of the Lightspeed jackets moved toward utilitarian from this point on, layering complexity and functionality into the design — but this sketch is a fun look back at a “what if!”

Hero Zentinel Helmet Prop from Cosmic Fury.
The Zentinels were cybernetic footsoldiers exclusive to Power Rangers, fighting at Lord Zedd’s command in the 30th and final season. Their design reflects a modernized, militarized Zedd — their de facto leader, though their ultimate loyalty would lie with Bajillia Naire.
This helmet is noticeably heavier than the lightweight Ranger helmets, clocking in at 3.5 lbs. [by comparison, a quick Ranger helmet comparison came in at 1.5 lbs.]. The hefty helmet is hinged at the oversized bolts, with the front sliding upward to allow a performer to stick their head in. Inside the helmet, a chinstrap keeps the jaw of the helmet in place during filming. A thin piece of black mesh is draped inside as well, obscuring the performer from viewers while allowing the performer to see.
The Zenintels came in Red and Grey variants, although the helmets remained the same while the body suits alternated colors. These footsoldiers can speak and communicate easily, maintaining a robotic tone apropos of their mechanical origins.

“Cutest Cast on TV: Power Rangers” — The Cast of Lost Galaxy for Popstar! Magazine.
@PowerRangers was pulling out all the stops to promote its brand new season — the first of the Post-Zordon Era. Lost Galaxy would be Power Rangers Season 7, and this spread was certainly geared toward a slightly aged up audience; appealing to the teenyboppers of PR’s final season of the ‘90s, whether they were a new audience via this magazine or an attempt to regain the focus of fans who may have fallen off when they were younger.
The six leads were photographed exclusively for the magazine by Keith Munyan with accompanying bio bites of individual trivia: @cerinavincent [Maya] is a former Miss Nevada Teen Pageant winner; Valerie Vernon [Kendrix] was a globe-trotting cruise ship performer; Danny Slavin [Leo] trained in the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool Won; @ArchieKao [Kai] only took up acting right before getting his gig on Rangers; @Reggie_Rolle [Damon] was a well-known member of a dance troupe in Minneapolis; and Russell Lawrence [Mike] loves to write poetry!

Early Concept + Costume Draft for Operation Overdrive’s Mercury Ranger / Bouken Silver.
This in-progress alternate design features a white vertical stripe through the costume that’s consistent with the core team, while the final design would change that stripe [and the costume’s wimple] to black. These materials were shared at a point in Operation Overdrive’s Pre-Production when Bouken Silver’s designs were not yet finalized.
Pardon the quality, as the scans are hi-res but captured from a very small print-out.

The Power Rangers Preservation Project Presents Anatomy of a Scene: Mirinoi Turns to Stone!
These shots from the second half of the Lost Galaxy premiere show Kendrix [Pink] and Damon [Green] going hand-to-hand with the Stingwingers as the wave of petrification washes across Mirinoi, causing the Rangers and Stingwingers alike to flee. We get a bonus shot of Furio — Scorpius’ General responsible both for turning Mirinoi to stone and for ripping a chasm through the planet wide enough for Mike Corbett to fall through.
Unlike most adverse monster effects which typically revert back to normal after their destruction, the petrification of Mirinoi endured long beyond Furio’s demise. It would take the Quasar Quest being completed and the Sabers returned to the stone for Mirinoi to be restored to its lush former glory as it became the New World that Terra Venture had set out to find.

Ninja Steel Gold / Levi Weston’s Hero Ninja Comm.
The Ninja Comms were created by Mick and [to an extent] Brody as the team’s communicators, reverse-engineered from the Warrior Dome’s Data Comms. The Data Comms were designed to interface with the Warrior Dome and serve as a tool for Galaxy Warrior contestants to analyze their opponents, which Brody continued to briefly leverage post-escape to gain an advantage against his foes. Once Galvanax caught on, Brody’s access was quickly cut off — prompting Mick to fabricate the Ninja Comms as an alternative.
The weathered faceplate of the Comm features the Ninja Nexus Prism outline, which can spring open outward in-show to reveal a screen within when triggered by the green button [making the Comm appear like a wrist-mounted Ninja Star]. The cast’s hero Ninja Comms, like Levi’s seen here, were rendered as solid static molds and did not open. A key hero beauty prop with an actualized opening faceplate was leveraged by production when the script called for it; but everyday usage was left to these static versions. ‘Levi Hero’ is written inside the wristband.
Flash ⚡️ Fact: Toy versions of the Ninja Comms were released overseas that largely resembled both the design and functionality of the actualized prop version; albeit much cleaner and not distressed. If you’re lucky enough to track one down, you’ll have what’s pretty close to the hero!

The #PowerRangersPreservationProject Presents Operation Overdrive Screen Tests: The Rangers!
In addition to capturing each of the series regular cast on camera individually, the core five Rangers also shot indoor tests on the Hartford Mansion set together in both their civilian styling and mission uniforms. For the purposes of this chemistry test, they only shot the mission uniforms in their commonly seen standard mode with full jacket sleeves only, and did not test them together in their short-sleeved variants.
The group action posing in their Overdrive Mission Uniforms demonstrates the unique styling per uniform, with each color’s uniform featuring individualized design elements while still maintaining the base uniform look across the team.
Featuring @RhodaMontemayor as Rose [Pink], Gareth Yuen as Dax [Blue], James Maclurcan as Mack [Red], Caitlin Murphy as Ronnie [Yellow], and Samuell Benta as Will [Black].

Abandoned Cosmic Fury “Special Hero Blaster” Concept Art.
The would-be Cosmic Blaster featured two modes: a battle-ready Action Mode, and an extended / powered-up Blaster Mode powered by a Cosmic Orb. Once activated, the colorful semicircle surrounding the Cosmic Orb Port illuminated with the six core Cosmic Ranger colors: Red, Orange, Gold, Green, Blue, and Black — no Zenith.
The front of the Blaster features the familiar Chromafury Saber Hilt-inspired Dino Bust with a blast opening at the end of the barrel — a design ultimately integrated into the Cosmic Morpher. Whether the Cosmic Morpher was intended in addition to or in place of this design isn’t currently known; though there is certainly a redundancy in capabilities that could indicate an eventual consolidation of concepts.
In the final show as-aired, the Cosmic Morphers had a built-in blaster functionality, serving as both a morpher and a primary sidearm. It’s been three years since Cosmic Fury premiered — and nearly five since this early development concept art by Production Designer Tracey Collins!
