I'm genuinely pumped about this talk.
We've been running Timefusion in prod for a year with some customers. But this summer we went all in; every single customer moved to Timefusion. As you can imagine, everything went to shit. lol. But we fixed it all, and now we're faster and cheaper than ever.
We even pushed those cost savings to our customers. Now it's $1 per 10 million metric events. For context, 3 years ago, Monoscope was $1 per 100k events. We've come a long, long way. Sometimes, its ok to just write your own database.
We’re excited to announce Anthony Alaribe (@tonialaribe), co-founder of @monoscope_tech, as a speaker at SysConf 2026!
His talk is titled “Timefusion: Retrospective on running a custom timeseries database in production.”
Anthony’s talk at #SysConf25 focused on the motivation for building Timefusion, a time series database built in Rust.
This year, his talk examines the reality of powering an observability platform using Timefusion over the last year, including painful incidents, what has gone well and the techniques the @monoscope_tech team has implemented to stay fast at scale.
Dear @AppleSupport @Apple, kindly make 400GB and 1TB iCloud storage tiers happen. 200GB isn't enough, but 2TB is too much! Let's fill the gap.
Bruh, my current dilemma...
I don't like piracy.
I have subscriptions with Netflix, Prime and even Showmax before they shutdown, but sometimes I just don't have any other option.
I wanted to watch Zootopia 2, it's on Disney Plus but Disney Plus is not available here. I wanted to rent it on Prime Video and Google Play Movies, but it's not available in my region on those platforms either and they even block VPNs.
Well, that left me no choice...
You mean you didn’t have to settle boys, must be nice. We are still doing “He built lagos” here.
Replying to @Ademola_Odumesi
lol, my car broke down on motorway last week..also happened to me in 2024
I cannot over emphasise the importance of a roadside assistance cover, had to go upgrade it to national roadside assistance cover..

I love seeing Nigerians on the big stage. This guy mentioned “I’m from Nigeria” three times 🤣🤣, and his vibe was very cool. He gave a presentation on context engineering, and it’s one of the best sessions I attended.

The sheer amount of grit and sacrifice required to build something isn't talked about enough.
You go and die.
