I cry all the time. It feels amazing to care about so many things on such a profound level that I’m often moved to tears. I cry when I’m grateful. I cry when I miss someone I love. I cry because I’m not killing myself with drugs anymore. I cry when Jerry Garcia sings “Standing on the Moon.” I cry when I look at puppy videos of my dog. So, spare me the macho masculinity bullshit. I guarantee I’ve gotten into more bar fights and back alley brawls and seen more jail cells than most of the pricks who are making fun of a 17-year-old kid’s display of love for his dad. In fact, these days, I cry tears of gratitude because I’m not getting into those fights anymore. Instead, I focus my energy on more positive things— like standing up for a kid who is man enough to show the whole world that it’s perfectly ok to cry. You go, Gus.
