Why are Nebraska’s taxes so high? “Fraud” and “incompetence” are much bigger reasons than most of us would like to admit.

Stretching before exercise does not prevent injuries. A 2014 meta-analysis of 26,610 participants in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that stretching had no effect on injury rates at all. Strength training cut injuries by a third. The study was led by Jeppe Bo Lauersen at the University of Copenhagen. His team pooled every randomised trial that tested whether exercise-based programmes could prevent sports injuries, and compared the results by type: stretching, strength training, balance work, and combinations. Stretching reduced nothing. Strength training reduced injuries by 33 percent and cut overuse injuries, the ones that build up slowly over weeks, by nearly half. The reason stretching fails is that it addresses the wrong problem. A muscle tear happens when a muscle is asked to produce more force than it can handle. Making a muscle longer does not make it stronger. Strength training does, and it also thickens tendons and stiffens the connective tissue around joints, all of which protect against the sudden loads that cause tears and sprains. The finding goes against what every gym teacher, track coach, and physical therapist has said for fifty years. But the data is not close. Across every trial, every sport, and every injury type, stretching before exercise had zero detectable effect on whether the person got hurt. This does not mean flexibility has no value. It means the five-minute hamstring stretch before a run is doing nothing for injury prevention, and replacing it with five minutes of bodyweight squats and lunges would be measurably better. The body does not need to be looser before it works. It needs to be ready to handle load, and that is a strength problem, not a flexibility problem. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2410…

The comments on this are why kids stay weak and get hurt in sports. “It’ll stunt his growth.” “Kids shouldn’t lift.” “That’s dangerous.” All of that is outdated and wrong. Save this thread. I’m going to bury that myth with actual research.👇

Trying hard is cool. Giving your all is cool. Seeing what you're capable of is cool. The only way to find out how good you can be...and who you are...is to risk something and give it your all. It's true in sport. It's true in life. Go for it. Take the risk.

“Football is a character-forming institution that channels strength. In a world of instant gratification, it teaches perseverance through early practices and aching muscles.“ Everyone needs to read this. Thank you for this Ben Sasse! wsj.com/opinion/free-express…

This is one of the most powerful videos I’ve seen about coaching. Chris Fowler nails how hard this profession can be: “Coaching is a calling more than a profession. You have to have what it takes to pour yourself into others.”

This could be an unpopular take, but I can’t believe boys are giving up on football. Want to run cross country or play tennis, I get it. But, being involved in football changed my life. Teamwork. Bus rides. Locker rooms. Do something. Don’t stay home on Friday nights.
Boys Of Fall would not have been the same without my good friend @SeanPayton. This is Sean giving a pregame speech in Naperville, Illinois where he played High School football. This speech wasn’t scripted. He spoke from heart. Sean is a great football coach but he is a great communicator and motivator. This speech still gives me chills. Sean I am forever grateful. It’s football season everyone. KC

Jocko Willink was asked for the single habit that improves leadership, parenthood, and physical performance. His answer was direct. Wake up early enough to complete some form of physical activity before the day starts. Ten minutes counts. The modality is secondary. The sequence is what matters. Exercise before the day begins produces sharper thinking, better decisions, stronger interactions, and greater resilience across every domain of life. One habit. Every area of your life improves. Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold: Two kids. One rich. One poor. Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids. The rich kid has two choices. Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more. Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater. The poor kid has two choices too. Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been. Or outwork everyone in the room. Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch. Same choice for all of them. Ownership or victimhood. Fuel or excuse. The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it. The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it. Greatness doesn't come from where you start. It comes from which kid you choose to feed. Credit to @coachlukefalk for continuing to share golden nuggets about Coach’s legacy

Manual
Most football staffs don’t fail because of talent. They fail because: • No clear structure • No defined roles • No consistent communication So I built a Coaching Staff Manual and I’m giving it to every coach 👇 If you want it: 1. Follow @GridironHQ 2. Like + Repost 3. Comment “MANUAL” I’ll send you the copyable version.

Coaching from emotion leads to reactivity, tension, and inconsistency, while coaching from standards creates steadiness, clarity, and trust. When coaches anchor themselves in identity and intentional behaviors rather than frustration or pressure, they model the emotional control athletes need. The goal isn’t to eliminate emotion — it’s to ensure emotion doesn’t lead. Click here to download a free copy of Coaching From Emotions vs. Coaching From Standards: tamimatheny.com/product/coac…

When words need to be spoken, when actions need to be taken, you are the one that needs to step forward. We have control over very little in this world. But make no mistake, you have complete control over yourself and the actions you take. — Andy Stumpf, Drownproof 530-0:21:44

"Today everybody wants to talk about their rights and their privileges. 50 years ago, people talked about their obligation and responsibility. You have obligations to other people. If you want to fail, you have the right to fail. You do not have the right to cause other people to fail because you do not do everything to the very best of your ability."
