🇵🇾 | Most foreigners who moved to #Paraguay over the last 4 years, along with the residency sellers who spent years marketing it as the ultimate freedom paradise, seriously underestimated the level of political corruption and regulatory failure in the country.
It turns out that one of Paraguay's slickest digital banks was running an old-school Latin American banking carousel behind the scenes.
The playbook was straight out of the regional corruption manual: a bank executive moves from the private sector to head the state regulator, hundreds of millions in public deposits flow into the bank, and insider lending runs unchecked until the balance sheet collapses, leaving ordinary bank customers to foot the bill.
Ueno Bank reportedly served around 3 million local customers. This is not some minor corporate scandal.
The damage to confidence in Paraguay's banking system could last for years, affecting local businesses, holding back economic growth and damaging the country's international reputation.
For a country trying to attract foreign investment and build international credibility, this is a serious step backwards.

if you value intelligence above all other human qualities, you’re gonna have a bad time

"... at the edge of sanity".
True
Working with AI requires perpetually operating at the edge of sanity. You have to recalibrate your mental model of AI capabilities and your own job description every few months, without getting delusional about seemingly infinite productivity gains, or feeling threatened by losing what you thought was the uniquely human part of your job, or obsessing over the perfect setup, or losing your mind over the clumsiness and jaggedness of agents, or ...
Maybe AI literacy needs to be less about prompting and more about improving emotional regulation.
Researchers argue that AI agents also need to “sleep”
A leading sleep researcher published a paper with a devastating title: "Do agents need to sleep?"
When an AI agent continuously learns in an active environment, its neural weights get saturated.
The technical term is a "plasticity price."
Every new memory, every adaptation, and every new behavior costs structural capacity.
If the agent just keeps learning, the network overloads. It suffers from catastrophic forgetting or total system collapse.
The only way to fix it?
Take the agent offline. Cut it off from new data. Let it process, prune, and consolidate what it just learned.
In other words: it needs to sleep.
The researchers proved that for any system with finite capacity that learns continuously, sleep isn't just a biological quirk.
It is a mathematical requirement.
As we move toward autonomous AI agents that live on our devices and interact with the world in real-time, we cannot leave them running forever.
They will require scheduled "sleep cycles" to reset their neural capacity.
During these offline periods, they will essentially "dream”, replaying and consolidating the most important data from the day to free up space for tmorrow.
We spent decades trying to build a machine that transcends human limitations.
It turns out, biology had the optimal engineering solution all along.

Cyberattack on France’s national blood service (EFS) via its refrigeration contractor Coolworld. Hackers reset freezers keeping blood donor samples at -30°C to a target of 110°C. The thing that stopped it from destructive impact was an on-call technician who noticed the temperatures going up. Frozen plasma intended for transfusion was stored there too. Fortunately nothing was destroyed. This was a cyberattack on a sensitive layer of healthcare. From frozen peas to boiling plasma in three weeks...?
