Hear me out: no we don't
We need @elonmusk trying to do to fission power what he did to rocketry and cars, pull them out of a deep expensive stagnant rut, not having him fall into social media and building cell phones.

A BOOlean tribute to #Halloween! Boolean logic, invented by George Boole in 1854, explains how ones and zeroes combine to perform arithmetic and logical operations. It is the basis of modern electronic computing. @SIGCIS @ibm @TheOfficialACM @vcfed

In my sub-field of nuclear physics, nuclei are just tools - things we smash apart to use as dense, extended sources of quarks and gluons.
But in “low-energy” nuclear physics, the nucleus itself is the object of study. ⚛️
Here are my favorite nuclear structure factoids: 🧵(0/5)

Be diligent and check your child's candy this year, just found an invasive silver carp shoved inside a Milky Way. No words.

Our free MOOC on machine learning with @scikit_learn is happening again.
It's recognized as a both didactic and non trivial way to get started in machine learning. It teaches hands on coding, but also statistical understanding required for data science.
#ScikitLearnMooc, a free Machine Learning course taught by @scikit_learn core developers and #opensource! Accessible to anybody with basic #Python programming skills. Course starts on Oct. 18.

Hi friends—please share widely!
I’m co-chair of the new engineering track for @SciPyConf 2022, and looking for additional co-chairs to help make it an awesome track.
I have some ideas, but would particularly love to support “junior” researchers. Please suggest or self-nominate!

A third source of risk is that just 12 institutions create the majority of benchmarks. There is potential bias in elitism, but also geography.
All but two of these are in north America!
