I’ve always loved this Bell quote, so when I came across an original letter containing it at an online auction, I couldn’t resist...

State security operations in Mukogodo Forest have led to the displacement of indigenous Yaaku communities historically safeguarding the ecosystem. While state officials maintain that public forest lands cannot be claimed as private territory, local populations face severe disruption to their livelihoods and ancestral ties. We are now entering into an era where any product can be created exactly to a consumer's preferences & needs. I vibe-fabricated a dog door with a wifi-controlled lock, perfectly to the specifications & design of my house. I know nothing about metal fabrication or electrical engineering. It's now getting manufactured and delivered in 2 weeks -- for almost the same cost if I bought a mass-produced item off-the-shelf.

Our most specific finding: Uganda is exporting shocking amounts of gold -- $8.9 billion worth in 12 months thru June -- & a firm called Thaba Investments is responsible for nearly half. 🧵

Two years ago today this man told us "I will cripple you" (referring to the entire U.S. economy) if we didn't give his east coast port union workers what they wanted (60%+ wage increases and a pledge of no automation of our ports). It worked btw, he got all his demands.

Hence cycling for me. You need >3000 Kcal for a good life, otherwise no wine no bottarga no organ food no fermented cheese no head cheese no pork ribs no kebbe no croissants w/extra Irish butter no manousheh no tripes no steak tartare no boeuf bourguignon no baba au rhum...
If you try to eat less than ~2,500 kcal/d, you're *supposed to be* hungry. Man just wasn't built to live off <2,500 kcal/d. From an evolutionary standpoint, here's how it's supposed to work... Caloric intake falls, paleolithic man sitting around fire gets hungry. This hunger motivates him to *move*... Sometimes over very long distances in search of food. Trying to ignore or suppress this signal (or the resultant outcome -> extended movement) is suppressing the natural biological balance of your body. Hunger -> Move -> Find food. This is the natural satiety cycle.

Their books are extremely relatable to Kenya btw. If you haven't read: 1. The Hairdresser of Harare - Tendai Huchu( Zim) 2. The Shipikisha Club- Mubanga Kalimamukwento ( Zambia) 3. Out of Darkness, Shining Light- Petina Gappah ( Zimbabwe) 4. The Old Drift- Namwali Serpell (Zam)
The similarities between Kenya and Zambia and Zimbabwe are so striking Their food, culture, mannerisms are like ours. Even the drinking culture Bantus from here can understand some of the words in their sentences

I think this is super accurate AGI might just create a two-tier split in society, and I'm kinda starting to see it around me One part of society will succumb to AI slopscrolling and free money (basic income) from government as work is replaced by AGI The other part will fight that instead and become an elite counter movement that focuses on IRL, family, local community, and health I think many will be in kind of smaller communities (kind of like eco villages in the pic below), and my friend @csonotes is a good example of that and we try do the same (so I'm probably biased) @okaythenfuture below thinks it'll be in the central parts of big cities though Maybe both? For both of them you need real estate and land though Real estate and land also one of the few scarce resources left in a post-AGI world where almost every good becomes almost free If you told me a decade ago I'd want to buy real estate and land I'd call you crazy, but post-AGI it makes a lot of sense I think
Technology like this makes me even more bullish on tier 1 global city real estate. The internet is about to be ABSOLUTELY NUKED by all this AI garbage on the internet, including realistic rendered AI companions that sadly a lot of lonely and isolated people will become addicted too. There's going to be a huge counterelite movement against being terminally online, against spending all this time around this fake bot world, so the demand to live in the best and most central neighborhoods in the biggest and best cities on the planet? They're going to SOAR. Places like Central Tokyo, Bangkok, Manhattan + Brooklyn, Zone 1/2 London, Paris's best Arrondissements, they're all going to feel like charged up fun and hot college campuses. The premium to be there will be even HIGHER. The 2030s will probably be the most fun decade to ever be in a city.

Connecting the dots: Wicknell Chivayo, gold smuggling, & terrorism. We all know the brutal conflict in Sudan between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) & the regular army has been raging since April 2023. But just yesterday, a massive bomb dropped in Malawi: General Paul Valentino Phiri was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The charge? Alleged involvement in property deals linked to "terrorism." In plain terms, he’s accused of helping arm Sudanese rebels with heavy weaponry. This isn't a sudden development. Back in July 2025, a Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) report revealed that US intelligence believed top Malawian military officials were secretly funnelling heavy arms to Sudan. Now, this is where Wicknell Chivayo enters the frame. It’s well-documented that Chivayo met with former Malawian President Peter Mutharika multiple times, & he also had sit-downs with Lazarus Chakwera. While the investigators targeting General Phiri haven’t officially named the financial backer behind these massive weapon shipments—which are rumoured to be worth up to $4 billion—the word on the street points squarely at Chivayo. We all know Chivayo was just a front. There is really only one person who controls that kind of liquid cash, largely because they can’t use standard banking channels. While there is no paper trail proving who funded the July 2025 weapons shipment, look at the timeline: on July 15, 2025, Chivayo flew into Malawi & met with then-President Chakwera. Is that just a coincidence? Highly unlikely. I mean days before the shipment. To understand the scale of this, you have to look at the money. Gold is the lifeblood of the RSF; they control the mines in Darfur, mill the ore, & smuggle the metal out of Sudan. That’s where Kenya comes in as a major transit hub. Including Tanzania. In February 2025, Nairobi even hosted RSF political meetings, & Kenyan President William Ruto was spotted personally chauffeuring Chivayo around recently. Ruto himself has faced heavy accusations of holding personal & commercial ties to the RSF, mostly tied to gold smuggling. To add fuel to the fire, in June 2025, the Sudanese government claimed they discovered Kenyan-labelled weapons and ammunition hidden in RSF caches across Khartoum and Omdurman. Chivayo simply knew too much. It's telling that he wasn't around to see General Phiri's arrest. Did the heat finally get to him? Did US intelligence catch up with him? Or did his handlers realize the net was closing in, choosing to eliminate him & his wife—who was by his side through it all—to erase their own ties to international terrorism? What happened right after Chivayo’s helicopter crashed tells you everything you need to know. Within minutes, the army swarmed his mansion & completely locked it down. Nobody was allowed inside. Not family, not friends—absolutely no one. Neighbours made complaints about mysterious digging in Chivayo’s garden. The excavation was so intense that tunnels began collapsing, causing cracks to ripple through the walls of neighbouring homes. Chivayo was hoarding billions in gold, diamonds, & cash on that property because the people he associated with couldn't—or wouldn't—use banks. Tanzania president even offered to send mercenaries to help secure the house. The sanctioned Dagalo family, who fund the RSF, have deep ties here. RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has held meetings with the exact same presidents we used to see Chivayo rubbing shoulders with. Including Rhamaposa who enjoyed an exclusive meeting with him. Ultimately, Chivayo wanted to play with the big boys, but his pathological need to show off was his downfall. He ended up in a black bin bag. He was a careles operator who facilitated the funding of terrorism, smuggled gold, & laundered money, all while bleeding taxpayers dry to fund his lavish lifestyle. As for what happens next, we’ll have to watch General Phiri’s case unfold.

After trying the Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter and making V60 coffee with it, it tasted a bit flat I was kind of expecting that because even with the remineralizer installed (yes we have a remineralizer!) it only gets to 25 TDS, which is quite a low amount of mineral content for water TDS means total dissolved solids, so like what's left after you remove all the water, essentially the mineral content The plastic 6L water bottles we used before had a TDS of about 60 So I asked Claude what specialty coffee places do? They usually have an RO filter without any remineralizer. Then they use an industrial machine to remineralize it to the perfect level. That's why coffee of specialty coffee chains like @the_coffee (my fav) taste the same from Brazil to Japan. And their TDS level is high around 150 How can I do get my RO 25 up to 150 though? Claude suggested getting a mineral water coffee kit by Lotus Coffee, you get 4 drippers for Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and Sodium, so I got it today and tried it. There's a specific amount of drops to add based on your current TDS The TDS went up to 156 so at specialty coffee water level, and the V60 looked different and way more bubbly And the flavor is great, it's not bitter, it's pure kind acidic like the Brazil beans we have should be Adding these drops everytime might be annoying though, maybe I can mix them and make my own solution, or I can get a remineralizer for coffee that gets it to 150 TDS by itself after RO Anyway I've become a coffee water snob now 🧔‍♂️ 🫣
💧 For years I was brought up in the Netherlands being told we had the "best tap water in the world" "The Americans are silly for buying bottles of mineral water, you can just drink from the tap!" I remember the same sentiment with my German friends When I stayed at the VOCO hotel in The Hague a few months ago, there were no water bottles but a paper note saying "Do like the locals do! Drink from the tap" Now it turns out Dutch tap water is and probably was full of toxic chemicals and plastics Today actually we finally installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system in our home (or well the plumber did) by Waterdrop (unaffiliated, unpaid, recommended by Claude) RO seems to the best and most pure water filtration system out there I will let you know how the coffee tastes tomorrow with it! 😋

Part-way through this book, which was written, at least in part, to get the media and left-wing policy analysts to shift their focus from "tech billionaires" to "other" rich people. But I don't see how you can read it without coming away inspired by the risk acceptance, ingenuity, patience and hard work of the men and women who build and grow the small-to-medium sized businesses that power our economy.

Apparently, the Singapore government launched a dating app. Interesting as they have the incentive to actually get users out of the app as soon as possible, as opposed to all other dating apps.
Singapore's govt dating app runs on a Nobel Prize-winning game theory algorithm 👏 FirstDate uses Gale-Shapley, the 1962 stable marriage algorithm that won the 2012 Economics Nobel and still runs hospital residency matches and kidney exchanges today. how it works: 1 | your preferences and dealbreakers build a ranked priority list 2 | proposers offer to their top pick. receivers hold their best offer and reject the rest. rejected proposers move down their list. rinse and repeat until locked 3 | the result is mathematically stable: no two people exist who would both prefer each other over their assigned matches. "the app never showed us each other" becomes impossible by design the UX: • one match per cycle, zero infinite scroll • 72-hour decision window • contact info revealed only on mutual yes • Singpass-verified, so everyone is exactly who they claim (told my husband I'm annoyed I can't test it. his response: most people sneak onto dating apps, and here you are openly filing a product research request 🤣 ) commercial apps need you to keep swiping but this app is designed to get you off the platform. Singapore built the first dating app whose success metric is deleting its own users 💀 (fun game theory note: Gale-Shapley yields proposer-optimal outcomes - meaning proposers get their best possible stable match, receivers their worst 👀) public servants aged 21-35 only for now. interesting to see if state-sponsored game theory beats the free market (or rather, all the tinders and hinges out there) 🍿

You have to understand. Spending 1 hour per day on brainrot is insane. That's about 6% of your waking day. About 5 years of your waking life. Half a decade. On brainrot. Just gone. Zero return. Zero fulfillment. Zero meaning. Zero contribution to the other parts of your life.
If you replace your daily brainrot sessions with technical upskilling, your quality of life will seriously improve.

🦔Someone is buying Japanese used books by the ton. Not novels or comics. Philosophy, history, medical law, Edo-period cultural texts. Multiple buyer accounts all ship to one logistics center in Okayama Prefecture that won't answer questions. Export records show over 50 tons, roughly 100,000 volumes, shipped to the US since last year. No buyer has been identified. Separately, court documents confirmed Anthropic's "Project Panama" bought millions of books in the US, cut the spines off, scanned them, and shredded the originals. An internal memo said the goal was to "destructively scan all the books in the world." Similar operations have been reported across Europe. My Take Anthropic's US book operation came out in court filings earlier this year. Project Panama. Millions of books, cut the spines off, scanned, shredded. Their VP chose the codename so nobody outside the company would find out. That story broke and apparently the same operation just moved to Japan. Anonymous buyer accounts, a warehouse in Okayama that won't take questions, and 100,000 volumes of specialized academic texts that nobody buys to resell. I don't know how you build a trillion-dollar industry on material you had to acquire in secret through middlemen because you knew the public would object. Authors spent years on those books and now they're fed through a scanner and thrown away so a chatbot can sound smarter. If the data was free to use, they wouldn't need codenames and anonymous warehouses. The lawsuits over who owns this material have barely begun and I think the copyright exposure across the whole AI industry is enormous. Anthropic's internal memo said the goal was every book in the world, which describes the foundation of the product. Hedgie🤗
