What if PHP didn't need an interpreter to run?
No PHP installation.
No external runtime dependencies.
Just a native executable.
Meet Elephc 🐘
PHP compiled to native machine code. Built in Rust.

The invitation to all PHP developers and the entire PHP ecosystem is still open! 🐘🚀
Let's bring elephc to 1,000 stars! ⭐ (We are at 678)
500 stars reached. Now let's go for 1,000. 🚀
A few weeks ago I asked the PHP community to help elephc reach 500 GitHub stars. You did it. We're now at 551. ❤️
And there's more: NativeBin, the first real-world application compiled with elephc, is now live
Thank you to everyone supporting, testing and contributing to the project.
Next stop: 1,000 ⭐

Could @nahime0 Elephc be faster than PHP and sometimes even faster than C?
Yes 🚀
The DOOM gate is open.
elephc 0.27.6 is here, bringing the compiler improvements behind our rebuilt PHP DOOM showcase.
This release brings:
- Faster numeric loops and fewer heap allocations
- Method inlining and faster final-class dispatch
- C-width packed fields and buffers: u8, u16, i32, f32
- buffer_ptr() for passing buffer memory directly to C
- Arrays of buffers and pointers, plus static buffer properties
- Nullable strings in C FFI
- Faster compilation for large projects
- PHP compatibility fixes and safer memory handling
Original WADs. Textured BSP rendering. Sprites, doors, lifts and teleporters.
Written in PHP. Compiled to native code. Frame rates capped by VSync.
Thousands of PHP demons are escaping hell to star elephc on GitHub. ⭐

Thanks to a suggestion from @dr4goonis, we've added a new stats section to the Elephc homepage.
You can now see at a glance how far we've come in terms of PHP compatibility, with clear percentages tracking our progress.

A ⭐ on the repo would be much appreciated!
When people ask me why I chose to take full ownership of the entire compilation process in Elephc, this is why: we can finally build a compiler that's perfectly tailored to PHP's semantics (hence the EIR).
Meanwhile, we've been working on performance, and the results are pretty exciting.
Elephc main vs. v0.27.3:
- 4x faster on our mixed PHP benchmark.
- 65x faster for 20k single-byte string appends.
- Over 14x faster for 200k closure calls.
elephc 0.27.3 is out 🐘
New: `elephc repl`, an interactive PHP session. Variables, functions, classes and constants persist across lines.
Native generics now work in eval() and in the REPL too.
Also: preg_match_all() with all flags, a smarter optimizer, and 137 commits since 0.27.2.
A ⭐ would be much appreciated:

Seeing Elephc getting its very first conference talk feels unreal. And I couldn't be happier that Guillaume is the one giving it.
His contributions over the past few months have been invaluable. He's a big part of why we've come this far.
What a milestone! ❤️
Pretty excited to announce that I'll be talking about Elephc (created by @nahime0) at @symfonycon Warsaw next month.
Time for PHP to go native 🚀 🐘 🦀
I've always wanted a persistent tree sidebar in tmux, and I finally got it working exactly how I wanted!
It even has live previews and shows what my coding agents are up to.
Pretty happy with how it turned out 😄
