yes, I mean seriously in the sense that there are two sorts of beliefs: those that are shared with others, as in a social setting or communal bond; & those that are private, genuine. in true crime documentaries it happens repeatedly, & I mean repeatedly, how "good Christians" kill one another just as unconscionably & cruelly as anyone else, including their own spouses who are the mothers of their children, no matter what they pretend to believe socially; when it comes to advancing the self, it's the selfish self that predominates, not the "religious" self--some sort of public performance/hypocrisy. that is why self-proclaimed religious persons can be so bloodthirsty if required: their religious identities are largely performative, communal. but not deep. surely true for the many on Twitter who proclaim how "religious" they are!---how Jesus is in their heart!---scary people....
