Hi, I'm Krasen. I build NameDaemon: 18 free tools for .com names, run on a daily snapshot of the whole .com zone. Find names that are really free, score them, watch the ones you can't have yet. No sign-up.

Check a domain's history before you buy a used name: spam or a penalty in its past can follow you for months. Six steps, a few minutes each, to see what the name did before.

Compare five years, not the first bill. A name that costs almost nothing in year one can cost much more in years two to five. How to pick the cheaper option.

Glossary: Typosquatting (lookalike domains). Typosquatting is registering a misspelling or lookalike of a well-known name, such as gooogle.com, to catch visitors who mistype or to imitate the brand.

A Pro rule is a word and a position: contains, starts with or ends with, with optional length limits. Up to 15 rules, matched daily against the .com zone. A name that left the zone is not necessarily available: confirm with your registrar.

Ten domain name mistakes that cost money: trusting the year-one price, skipping the trademark check, buying without the history, leaving auto-renew off. Each one has a quick check.

Tool tip: Domain Health Check. One registry look-up and a dozen DNS queries: expiry, transfer lock, DNS and email authentication, blocklists. google.com gets grade A, 92 out of 100.

Redemption: the owner can still restore the domain, for an extra fee, for about 30 days. Pending delete: nobody can restore it, and it goes in about 5 days. Both come after expiry, before the drop.

Ten tests for a brandable domain name: three for how it sounds, three for how it looks, four for how it holds up over time. The radio test, the spell-back test, the napkin test.

About 180,000 .com names appear every day and about 118,000 leave the zone, a net gain of 54,000 to 63,000. Measured by comparing each day's zone file with the day before.

How long did you spend finding the name for your last project? Under an hour, a weekend, weeks, or you bought it from someone?

Tool tip: Domain Score. It splits a name into words and shows the score part by part: length, how in demand the words are, how readable. spacetech.com gets 98.1, working shown, so you know what to change.

Nearly every three-character .com is held, and so are about three in five four-character names. Five and six letters still have room, especially in patterns that sound like real words.

Glossary: DMARC. DMARC is a DNS policy that tells receiving mail servers what to do with email that fails SPF or DKIM checks, and where to send reports about it.

SPF lists who may send your email, DKIM signs each message, DMARC says what receivers do when a check fails. You need all three so others cannot fake your domain.

.com is the safer default and .ai is a signal. .ai tells people you build AI products, but it is a country-code extension with its own rules and prices. Many founders register the .com first.

You can buy an expired domain in five steps: find a name near its drop, check its history, place a backorder, watch the last days, register when it is free. Good names attract many buyers.
