AGI is a Cathedral

“We don’t even know what consciousness even is” is often uttered within any conversation that has to do with AI consciousness. We do know what it is like to live, feel pain, remember someone we love and experience the world, even if we can’t fully explain how we do so.
My new article is a meditation on how this question traces back to Descartes’ foundationalism and his separation of mind and body, before turning to the Christian understanding of the human person as a unity of body and soul, partaking in God’s creation.
Cathedral Systems
As AI becomes more capable at finding vulnerabilities, defenders need to put it to work before attackers do.
We’re planning our next internal security sprint at OpenAI and partnering with Cathedral Systems, whose researchers will use our models alongside our teams to challenge our defenses. They’ll bring differentiated expertise and approaches to our ongoing work to find and fix weaknesses with AI.
We’re also raising bug bounty rewards, including more than quadrupling rewards for critical findings. Exceptional findings will be eligible for up to $172,000, including bonuses.
We’ll keep advancing our models, using them to strengthen our own systems, and expanding access for trusted defenders.

Everyone sees the Cyborg Theocracy
The Tech Boys’ New Religions: When AI Becomes God.
How people are finding faith, purpose, and the promise of salvation in artificial intelligence.
"Something strange is happening within one of America’s most secular, highly educated, and technologically sophisticated communities. A growing subculture of young scientists, programmers, entrepreneurs, and artificial intelligence researchers is embracing extraordinary beliefs about simulated reality, digital immortality, superintelligent machines, and humanity’s ultimate destiny.
Some believe our universe is a computer simulation created by a superior intelligence.
Others envision escaping biological death by transferring human consciousness into machines.
Still others believe artificial intelligence will either save humanity or destroy it..."

On Tuesday, I heard a lecture by @JOEBOTxyz. He told us about psychosis and psychedelics; of acid dreams and machine elves; of madmen and visionaries.
Despite the nightmares that tech oligarchs are trying to pull us into, Joe says we need to stay positive, and stay human.

Doom from SI or some kind of “everyone enters the Matrix” utopian-dystopian outcome would be the ultimate victory of materialism and nihilism over humanity and might logically follow as inevitable under these metaphysical assumptions.
Cyborg Theocracy : "we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday"
this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical
i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs
but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now.
it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them
the last 6 months alone:
- a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months)
- a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months
- a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year
- a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3
- retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3
- an ai-designed drug entered phase 3
- a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3
- an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved
- a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney
- human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave
we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday
stick around, it's going to get weird

Did science really kill God?
The Enlightenment tells us atheism is the logical result of science: after Copernicus, Newton and Darwin, belief simply lost its credibility.
Tomer Persico, author of “In God's Image”, says that story is a delusion. Drawing on thinkers from Voltaire to Nietzsche, he argues that atheism's rise in the West owes less to science than to religious values it has never escaped.

There are no technological solutions to perennial human difficulties.
This includes our present-day political technologies.

For months, everyone has been talking about Peter Thiel’s secretive Antichrist lectures in Nashville. @gb_rango attended all four off-the-record lectures, held inside the historic Grand Lodge of Tennessee Free and Accepted Masons.
Now, with Thiel’s blessing: a comprehensive, firsthand reconstruction of his sprawling theory of the end times, from AI doomers and one-world government to the fate of America.

Peter Thiel is worried about the Antichrist. For the last four Mondays, he held court for the latest of his lectures on that subject in, of all places, Nashville, Tennessee.
@carsonjbecker reports on the lectures, the crowd, and the scenes that unfolded in Nashville.
