I worked at Microsoft for 20 years. This is exactly why and how Microsoft hired H1-B workers. It was not a secret, at least not in the Finance department. It was openly discussed. H1-B workers cost less and drove down demand for US workers, suppressing wages. Near the end of my tenor at Microsoft, however, the motivation changed - now the H1-B program was primarily used by Indian managers to bring in more Indian workers, as a way to help their fellow Indians (at the expense of Americans).
Corporations are laying off American workers and replacing them with cheap H-1B Visa labor, undercutting the wages of American workers. This system has been going on for years. The @WHFraudTF is STOPPING this fraud, fighting for American workers instead of cheap foreign labor.

One thing we have largely lost in education is the idea that a book does not have to be finished with you just because you finished reading it. For centuries, students returned to the same authors again and again, often reading Virgil or Cicero when they were young and coming back to them later with a much better understanding of what they had read. You have probably experienced this yourself. Read a great book at eighteen and then again at thirty, and you will often find an almost completely different book because you are no longer the same reader. Some books are simply too good to read once. As C. S. Lewis wrote: “I can’t imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once.” — C. S. Lewis

I picked up this beauty on eBay for about $5. It’s basically my first time reading Asimov.

India is scamming our country badly.
Kelly, a Texas real estate license holder, testified at a Frisco City Council meeting about widespread housing and employment abuses tied to immigrants from India. She described a system where Indian applicants qualify for apartments but vanish after approval, with friends or others taking keys and the original leaseholder returning to India, bypassing standard background checks and creating fair housing violations that could trigger MASSIVE lawsuits! Once units go to Indian tenants, they sublease internally via Indian Facebook groups and apps, excluding all other races and nationalities. Fake tech companies hire entry-level H1Bs, pay for 10 apartments at a time, and supply groceries, while Americans lose jobs to these replacements and face evictions that block renting for 4-7 years!

Since esoteric cavity cures have entered the zeitgeist once again, it's time to take you to school. Gather round, and let's talk about what remineralization is, and what it isn't. This all started from a concerned mother asking for the underground railroad of cavity cures that *isn't* nano-hydroxyapatite. First, I'm going to take a little credit for helping nHA graduate from what used to be esoteric deep tracks into the billboard top 20. I guess the goalposts for esoteric wisdom continue to widen, because a few years ago nHA was almost too esoteric. I digress...if you go into that post, she has HUNDREDS of comments and every single one of them is either bad advice, outright lying, or complete and utter stupidity. Recommendations range from brushing with raw milk, to vitamin supplementation, to idiotic lectures about how osteoblasts (cells involved in bone, unrelated to teeth) help rebuild enamel. Every single layman recommendation (including those that promote my own brand, @nobsroutines) is wrong. Remineralization is not magic. It is the process of minerals depositing back into enamel. It's happening right now. Your saliva is chock full of minerals that are providing nutrients to your enamel. Enamel isn't nourished by the blood. If you cut your arm, blood rushes to the site delivering platelets to clot, and healing factors. Enamel isn't afforded that luxury. Dentin, the inner layer is nourished by blood (more specifically, the pulp), but not the outer layer. The problem is, saliva can't keep up with the modern environment. That's why we've leaned on fluoride to quite literally fortify our enamel against the maladies of modern life. We love acid (lemon water, kombucha, balsamic vinaigrette, tomato sauce, etc). Acid doesn't like our teeth. It dissolves the calcium and phosphate out of our enamel, typically at a pace that is no match for the healing abilities of saliva. So yes, when pixie mothers ask for "secret remedies" it's insulting to you as a sentient being, to me as a practitioner, and to your own biology. Now, let's get back to where cavities come into all this. A cavity earns its title once it' breaks through your enamel into the second layer of your tooth. Before that point, you can absolutely reverse it. Whether that's through fluoride (gasp!), nano hydroxyapatite, theobromine, xylitol, or whatever compound you have a preference for. You can even stimulate your own saliva for a similar protection. The essence of NOBS, my company (yes, I am biased) is that I turned this combination into a blend that I feel can help people put up a fight against modern living without the use of fluoride. You can debate that all you want. I think I've earned my stripes both with research that's publicly available, and with years in the marketplace and good will. That doesn't mean you cannot do it without me, or without NOBS. You can, and you should. Vitamins matter. Diet matters. Habits matter. Breathing matters. Cavities are a metabolic issue, and a bacterial issue. You need to control your biofilm (fancy term for bacteria that inhabit your mouth) away from a pathogenic state, to a more commensal state. We do that through hygiene. Brushing and flossing mechanically disrupts the biofilm. You also need to nourish your body so that your saliva isn't sterile. Without proper vitamins and minerals, your saliva cannot protect your enamel the way it needs to. This is the essence of Weston Price's work that everyone loves to "introduce" me to. Finally, you need to be diligent about who you trust your dental treatment with. It's a bloodbath out there with private equity, and shady dentists. Many times they will not tell you about reversing initial cavities, they don't care to talk to you about your diet and habits. You know what's worse than a shady PE dentist? A trad mother that tells you giving her husband oysters and swishing with raw milk reverses cavities. Or listing some product (my own included!) that regrew a tooth. Or posting images of people pre/post dental work and giving credit to some heavy metal-laden tooth powder online (this happens). I take this so personally because if I just wanted money, I'd be doing other things. I'm on a mission, and quite frankly...talking like this hurts my mission. It upsets me. So please stop doing it. Oral health needs reputation rehabilitation: the providers and the patients need education. It's not all bleak though, we're making progress. There's a huge movement happening, and I'm privileged to be a part of it. Thank you for coming to my TED talk, carry on.

I started using @grok (4.6) with Cortex Code at work to query Snowflake metadata and write DDLs for me. It’s been so smooth and efficient, like butter.

I picked up this cool pocket dictionary from eBay. Copyright 1954 and full of interesting, albeit sometimes outdated, information. I like having a physical dictionary that I can feel and smell.

At a low enough level of literacy, infinite information does not really matter. This is especially true as AI proliferates. For example, I recently got in a dispute with a man who has a 5th-grade education at best. He immediately opened ChatGPT -- and miraculously, it always told him that he was right! Except there was one small problem. Sometimes he'd plug some outrageous fringe view into the machine, and it'd tell him that "some people believe" that view, but that the view has not been substantiated by historical or scientific fact. Because his reading skills are not especially good, he took that to mean that his position was plainly "true." It seemed to me that he'd only accept that his views were wrong if ChatGPT came and straight-out said that they were wrong -- and that if the phrase "this is wrong / untrue / false" didn't appear in the AI's answer, then it was obviously true. He did this about everything, and so behaved like a know-it-all -- yet he was actually wrong about literally everything he was arguing. For infinite information to matter, you have to know how to read critically. For AI to be useful, you have to prompt it properly, which means having basic writing skills. And if you don't have the basics down, it's all worse than worthless -- stuff like ChatGPT will just enable you to be self-righteously incorrect, forever. VERY bad that the death of literacy coincides perfectly with the emergence of AI....
It’s honestly embarrassing we have access to infinite information at the click of a button But people will still post stuff like “The Pope is a trillionaire!!”

Watching all of this immigration/H1B discourse, it’s astonishing how many foreigners feel entitled to participate in the American market at the expense of Americans, and how many recent immigrants feel entitled to call the shots. I would never feel that way about another country.

As some of you may be aware, we will likely be importing more cheap foreign beef in order to cut the cost at the grocery store for the consumers-this is likely a midterm election strategy as people don’t vote for incumbents when food is too expensive The down stream effect of this is that it will likely cause many American ranchers to go out of business unless additional help is sent their way In the mean time, if you can afford to do so, please buy directly from ranchers if you can-it might be the difference between them going out of business or surviving to keep on doing what they do the best in the world, producing high quality beef! Share this if you’d be so kind!

I just spent two hours in my garage assembling shelves in the sweltering Texas heat and organizing our stuff. Our garage is neat compared to most Americans, but I still can’t help wondering why we have all this stuff. Going to sell some of it.

I’m trying to carve out time to read everyday, making reading just like going to the gym: something I do regardless of busyness, without excuse. Are you reading? How to build and maintain a reading habit with a busy schedule?

The pardon of Dr. Fauci is federal only. It would not apply to state law. If someone you know took the vaccine in Florida or Texas, and had a miscarriage, then Fauci could be prosecuted under state law for manslaughter.

The Austin area has a dearth of used book stores, especially small, locally owned stores crammed with classics and hard to find titles. That’s something I really miss about Chicago. Perusing used book stores was one of my favorite past times.

It seems like the world is bifurcating into two groups: those who understand what’s happening with AI and those who are clueless. Of course, some people understand but are bearish on it because the cost model doesn’t seem to make sense (yet). A similar, and related, economic bifurcation might occur: the ultra wealthy and the have nots. Unless Elon is right about AI-enabled UBI. I guess we’ll see.
