From Economic Reforms to Real Business Outcomes: Dr Tope Fasua’s Key Insights at the NBCC Nigeria Economic Outlook Forum
At the Nigeria Economic Outlook Forum, Dr Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, delivered valuable insights into Nigeria’s economic outlook, investment opportunities and the future of Nigeria–UK trade relations.
His presentation highlighted the progress of ongoing economic reforms, the need to attract long-term foreign direct investment, and the opportunities available to businesses across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
One message stood out:
“Engagement is high. The real measure of progress over the next twelve months should be the transactions we close, not simply the memoranda of understanding we sign.”
This highlights the importance of moving beyond conversations and commitments towards tangible commercial partnerships, bankable investments, and measurable economic outcomes.
As Nigeria and the United Kingdom deepen their economic relationship, the opportunity is clear: turn dialogue into deals, investment interest into productive partnerships, and economic reforms into shared prosperity.

HAPPY NEW WEEK
The Best Investments Leave More Than Returns Behind.
When we talk about investment, the conversation often begins with numbers.
Returns. Profitability. Market share. Growth projections.
But what if we looked beyond the figures?
What if we considered the jobs created when a business expands, the skills developed when new industries emerge, the local suppliers brought into stronger value chains and the families whose livelihoods improve because an enterprise is thriving?
That is the wider value of investment.
A well-placed investment can do more than strengthen a company's balance sheet. It can introduce new technologies, transfer knowledge, develop talent, stimulate local businesses and create opportunities that continue long after the initial capital has been committed.
Think of a company entering a new market. Beyond the capital it brings, there could be new employment opportunities, partnerships with local businesses, professional development for young people and increased demand across its supply chain.
That is when investment becomes more than a financial decision. It becomes a catalyst for progress.
At the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), we recognise the importance of creating an environment where investment can translate into lasting value.
Through our work in promoting Nigeria–UK trade and investment, we bring businesses, investors, policymakers and industry stakeholders together to explore opportunities, exchange knowledge, build commercial relationships and strengthen confidence across both markets.
As we begin a new week, let us think about the kind of value we are creating through the decisions we make, the partnerships we build and the opportunities we pursue.
The best investments do not simply grow businesses; they help build a future in which more people have the opportunity to thrive.
Here's to purposeful investments, meaningful partnerships and prosperity that reaches beyond the bottom line.
Happy New Week from NBCC.

The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce hosted its Lagos State Executive Breakfast Meeting,” themed “The Future of Lagos state: Business, Investment & Global Competitiveness,” with His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, as Guest Speaker.
The programme began with Mr. Tajudeen Ahmed, Chairman of the Programmes Committee, who welcomed guests and acknowledged the dignitaries in attendance.
In his welcome address, our President & Chairman of Council, Prince Abimbola Olashore, highlighted Lagos’ pivotal role in Nigeria’s commercial landscape and the need for reliable infrastructure, predictable policies, efficient regulations and access to finance to sustain its global competitiveness. He emphasised that government provides the enabling environment while the private sector brings capital, expertise and enterprise, and that together they can build a more competitive, innovative and investment-ready Lagos.
As the Chamber approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027, we remain committed to creating platforms where dialogue leads to practical outcomes and stronger trade and investment ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

His central message was that capital follows confidence, and that Lagos is building an environment investors can trust. He described Lagos as a national economic asset, the commercial gateway through which Nigeria engages the world.
He outlined Lagos State Development Plan for 2052: a thirty-year blueprint to grow the Lagos economy to between $800 billion and $1 trillion, built on four pillars: a Thriving Economy, a Human-Centric City, Modern Infrastructure and Effective Governance. Furthermore, he mentioned that Lagos ranked first in the 2025 PEBEC Subnational Ease of Doing Business Report, with a score of 85.6%. On Thursday, 29 October 2026, the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) welcomed business leaders, industry stakeholders and newly inducted members to its Members’ Evening & Induction Ceremony at NBCC Plaza. It was an evening of connection, big ideas and real opportunities for trade, investment and sustainable growth.
Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, Chairman of the Membership Committee, opened the evening with introduction. Prince Abimbola Olashore, President & Chairman of Council, NBCC, in his welcome address congratulated the new members. He described NBCC as a community built on collaboration, excellence and stronger Nigeria–UK commercial ties.
Insights that set the tone. Our guest speaker, Oluwole Adelokun, Partner, Strategy & Customer Solutions at @KPMG_NG , delivered a timely session titled “Leading Through Change: Building Resilient Businesses in Nigeria’s Evolving Economy.”
He began with the global picture: rising nationalism, geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, higher-for-longer interest rates and an AI investment supercycle. He showed how these forces are felt more sharply across Africa, from China’s growing trade ties and tighter aid flows to the race for critical minerals and the continent’s young, fast-growing population.
At home, he described a two-speed economy. Macro stability is improving, with real GDP growth of 4.43%, inflation easing to 14.63%, FX reserves of $55.2bn and a stronger naira. Businesses still feel the pressure of high borrowing costs, expensive energy and weak purchasing power. He also walked members through the 2027 election cycle and three possible scenarios. KPMG sees continuity as the most likely outcome, but the advice was clear: plan for multiple paths, not just one.
As NBCC continues to champion bilateral trade and private-sector growth, the evening reaffirmed that lasting economic progress is driven not only by capital but by collaboration and a shared vision.
Thank you to our valued sponsors, Fieldbase, All Best Group and Lange Grant and to our product partner, @Unilever , for helping make the evening a success.
