If centrist pundits think that it is too risky to run a Muslim candidate then they should just say so. But pretending this race was about left vs. center policy is just dishonest.
This is so odd. El-Sayed ran just two points behind the Democratic candidate for governor despite a fire hose of AIPAC spending and a rabidly Islamophobic campaign. Nearly 40 percent of Michigan voters said they would be unlikely to vote for a Muslim. His margin was a miracle!

On the political whiplash in Dearborn and how the Arab community went from Trump to Abdul El-Sayed. "Two years ago, the Republican Party and Trump came to Dearborn and … they bamboozled the Arab community and gave us false promises. But they don’t know the Arab community. The Arab community doesn’t forget. Today, the Arab community in Michigan and across the nation gave Trump a slap in the face that he will never forget for the rest of his life." truthout.org/articles/dispat…

Democrats have spent the campaign trail talking about ending the war on Iran. But actually doing that may take far bolder action than anything we've seen before. I talked to @Harrison_J_Mann about the concrete steps Democrats must take to make it happen truthout.org/articles/democr…

let it be known that abdul never threw trans people under the bus like kamala did, stood up for them explicitly the weekend before his election, and won the state she lost in.

The political establishment likes to close ranks around "winners," but it’d be wise to keep elevating candidates who actually resonate, even when they lose. Angie Nixon came within 3 pts in Florida! Just 8 yrs ago El-Sayed lost his primary for governor. Movements take time.

Don’t care what any centrist says about Abdul’s win, especially not ones outside Michigan. Don’t talk about it if you didn’t get mailers like this daily. The ads on tv were so racist that my 3-year-old could tell and asked why they were so scary. Can’t tell me that didn’t matter.

A pre-election poll found 45% of Michigan voters refused to vote for a Muslim and Abdul got 53%. If people want to quibble over whether being too left wing or critical of Israel cost him that 2% it’s a free country and they have a right to spend their time doing that I guess

I want to say that this is because CBS, The Free Press and CNN all have the same owners but honestly this is a question I would’ve expected from this network even before David Ellison bought them.

“End the war” is meaningless as policy. Literally everyone says they want the war to end—what matters is on what terms. Will anti-war Senate Democrats commit to lifting sanctions on Iran and permanently withdrawing from the Gulf? They should be asked these questions directly

Ok that’s it. John Bolton denouncing the war in Iran is absolutely the biggest victory of the night.
Our lengthy operation against Iran is a direct consequence of Trump surrounding himself with a cadre of yes-men. Americans are not happy to be in another seemingly endless war, and they are placing the blame squarely on Trump. youtu.be/1QXNk3XbLF8?si
