Quantum Security Deep Dive (2) โ Sharing and Protecting AES Secret Keys: USB, QKD, OTP, Hybrid PQC, HNDL, and Key Management

What if the biggest threat to AES-256 isn't breaking the encryption itself?
AES-256 is extraordinarily difficult to crack, even with quantum computers.
But there's a catch.
You don't need to break the lock if you can steal the key.
And even if the key is safe today, an attacker could record encrypted traffic now and decrypt it decades later.
That's the danger of Harvest Now, Decrypt Later (HNDL).
So how should we protect the keys?
USB? QKD? One-Time Pads? Post-Quantum Cryptography? Hybrid approaches?
Each offers different advantages, but none eliminates the need for secure key management.
In Part 2 of my Quantum Security Deep Dive, I explore why the future of cybersecurity may depend less on breaking encryption and more on how we establish, distribute, protect, and manage the keys.

Quantum Security Deep Dive (1) โ RSA, ECC, PQC, and AES: Digital Signatures, Key Establishment, Data Encryption, and Quantum Resistance
๐บ๐ธnetcreat.substack.com/p/quanโฆ
๐ฐ๐ทblog.naver.com/4-fire/224462โฆ
Will quantum computers eventually break all encryption?
The answer is far more interesting than a simple yes or no.
RSA and ECC face a known threat from Shorโs algorithm.
But AES-256 is a completely different story.
And PQC is not a single magical encryption algorithm.
ML-KEM establishes shared secrets, while ML-DSA and SLH-DSA provide digital signatures.
Meanwhile, AES continues to protect the actual data.
Even quantum-resistant cryptography is not necessarily quantum-proof forever.
So which algorithms must be replaced, which can remain, and what happens if future mathematical breakthroughs change the rules?
In Part 1 of my Quantum Security Deep Dive, I break down the algorithms, their roles, their quantum vulnerabilities, and why crypto agility may be just as important as cryptographic strength itself.
Will Quantum Computers Break All Encryption? โ A Beginnerโs Guide

There are three essential points.
Encrypt the data strongly.
Share and manage its secret keys securely.
Control access so that even when a system is compromised, the damage cannot spread.

Why did IonQ suddenly start talking about PQC?

What if IonQโs real ambition isnโt to develop another encryption algorithm, but to control the security layer above it?
QKD, PQC, key management, Zero Trust, and trust orchestration may be pieces of a much bigger strategy.
I connected the dots in my latest deep dive.
