The military community is mourning the loss of TSgt Ian Patterson, a 15-year US Air Force veteran and Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) instructor.
While stationed with the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, at Joint Base San Antonio, he died on October 17 after a tragic fall during a pregame rappelling demonstration at the Alamodome before UTSA’s Salute to Armed Forces & Veterans game against Navy.
From Fort Stewart, Georgia, Patterson was a highly decorated airman, and recipient of the Air and Space Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters and named Air Force Special Warfare Enlisted Instructor of the Year in 2022.
His service mattered deeply to his wing, teammates, family, and friends. An investigation is underway.
Our thoughts are with his loved ones and all who served alongside him.

Great story. Tucker Kraft might become highest paid TE in NFL history later this week. Played at tiny South Dakota HS, 9 on 9, with 23 kids in his grad class.
Turned down Alabama poachers to stay at South Dakota State. Fit over name wins again!
I spent two days in a South Dakota town of 509 people in the middle of nowhere, the home of an NFL star.
“A place you have to see for yourself,” he told me.
To understand who Tucker Kraft is, you have to understand the people and place that raised him: nytimes.com/athletic/7523079…

#OTD in 1777, the American flag flew in battle for the first time. This occurred during the Revolutionary War skirmish at Cooch's Bridge, Del. General William Maxwell (commander of the Patriot infantry forces) raised the flag as British troops approached.

The state amateur baseball tournament at Mitchell’s Cadwell Park is a South Dakota sports tradition unlike any other. It’s the perfect spot for 12 days of baseball, beer, bingo and onion burgers. It’s a blast covering it, and it should never leave Mitchell.
