Shared margin means one asset can take out a whole book. We already saw that with the billions wipeout.
Crypto, stocks, commodities sitting in the same account makes the speed of that spread higher than most people are used to.
The hard part is not spotting the risk. It’s whether the infrastructure can actually handle it when everything is linked and moving at once.

We have seen what shared margin does inside the industry: one pair or one asset collapsed, and it caused around twenty billion in liquidations. Crypto is not just crypto anymore. Within an exchange it ties to stocks and commodities. In one single account, people hold positions across multiple assets and multiple time zones
That liquidation caused some mess, but we did all right. If a similar situation happens again, it will not be just a crypto problem. My biggest concern is whether we have enough infrastructure to handle it, because we are living in a more sensitive and more integrated world

Appreciate the edit. That conversation was one of the more useful ones in Singapore.
Banks and exchanges will keep arguing over who holds the balances. The part that actually needs work is the exit. That still sits between the two sides.

Between banks, exchanges and other providers, the fight for market share is most intense in two places. Number one is who holds the idle stablecoin balances. We've seen deposit tokens, and banks letting users buy crypto inside the banking app. Number two is who earns from the stables sitting with them
But technically, crypto and TradFi need each other. Crypto entities provide a 24/7 flow of users. To bring that onto regulated balance sheets, we need regulated providers like banks and institutional funds to provide an exit. We need to collaborate a bit more instead of competing over who keeps most of the stables

We will keep competing for users. Trust and adoption still get built together. That part does not have to be a fight.

At midday, I joined representatives from several organizations, including @Tether and @galaxyhq, at HSC for an in-depth discussion on the digital economy: what we are still missing, and where our priorities should lie next.
I am grateful to @mpost_io for their support, and to my fellow panelists for sharing such thoughtful insights.
Later, I sat down for two interviews, one with @crypto_banter and another with @Cointelegraph at LONGITUDE.
The questions varied, but the core focus stayed the same: what role should an exchange play for traders? And looking ahead to 2027 and beyond, as crypto trading becomes mainstream, what kind of exchange will traders actually need? I also shared a first look at what’s next for Bitbase, so stay tuned for the final footage.

The 1% is not the size of the account. Plenty of people are the top 1% by balance and still have no idea what they do next.
The ones who actually sit in that room, at least the ones worth listening to, are not the ones who called the top. They are the ones who still have a plan when the call is wrong.
Size gets you in the room. A plan is why you are still trading next year.
