Thinking big about media’s future.
Q) does the future of the entertainment industry depend less on AI and algorithms and more on where the data centers are physically located and geographic intelligence?
An ongoing series.
Happy Saturday October 24th 2026 where it was a crisp autumn day and I got a lot of gardening done (the crabgrass has been pulled and replanted with grass seed and soil).
On Friday, I wrote how China was subsidizing its AI entertainment industry.
Today? How South Korean K-Pop labels are splitting the globe: human groups to high yield cities; touring robot counterparts everywhere else using regional feeds.
What holds it together? Generative media. An infrastructure game with real time rendering and virtual production pipeline that can’t outrun the laws of physics. That’s why latency requires a local edge computing network.
See you on Sunday October 25th.
Bingo!

Thank you @jamie_s_waters for writing your column on how super agers are staying fit @WSJ (wsj.com/health/wellness/supe…)
It inspired me to buy this weight so I can continue to stay fit!
Good evening X!
It’s my rough thinking on a series of ideas I’m running through at the moment; focused on the future of the entertainment industry from an economic geography, geo AI point of view.
For those who aren’t familiar with economic geography, it’s how economic activities (production, consumption, distribution of goods and services) are distributed across the world and shaped by their location.
Geo AI stands for geographical artificial intelligence (combines AI, machine learning and computer vision with GIS (geographical information science and spatial data).
I’m planning on creating an X article or a series of tweets/threads (I haven’t decided on the format) on the topic.
I’ll leave you with a teaser: robots, AI film making.
That’s it for now!
In South Korea, the labels behind the k-pop groups are splitting the globe. While the humans groups play in the cities where the data shows that their fans are willing to pay more to see them live, their robot counterparts are touring the rest of the world (credit Matilda Aquila Chia @WSJ for this interview: wsj.com/tech/ai/k-pop-is-bet…)
While China focuses on AI dramas, South Korea on K-Pop singing robots, the US is focused on human filmmakers. As Sharon Waxman wrote @TheWrap: thewrap.com/industry-news/bu… Jeffrey Katzenberg is launching an AI animation studio that helps human filmmakers use generative AI tools to cut their production costs.
Would you pay more to see real humans on a stage or screen? Or do you focus on the story and don’t care whether or not a robot group is singing to you or you’re watching an AI drama on your screen?
Fun brain fact from @RunnerBliss!
@richardkerris If every pixel can be generated, is location a first class prompt? Or an afterthought in the render?
Detection asks “was AI involved?”
Geography asks “where was this allowed?”
