For Indian Hills Community College head coach Cole Dewey, the identity of his program starts with five players operating as one. “I just hope they see a team that plays together.” Dewey isn’t interested in building an offense around one player dominating the basketball. He wants movement, multiple touches and a group willing to consistently sacrifice a good opportunity to create an even better one. “We want to share the ball. We want to move the ball side to side. We want everybody to touch it every possession if we can.” That philosophy comes down to making winning decisions and playing for the guy next to you. “We want to just play unselfish and make the one more pass every chance we get.” And that connectivity carries over defensively, where Indian Hills has established its reputation over the last two seasons. Dewey wants that standard to remain unmistakable every time an opponent steps on the floor with the Warriors. “We want to be one of the best defensive teams in the country year in and year out.” For 40 minutes, Dewey wants opponents to feel Indian Hills’ presence on every possession. “We want to make sure when teams come in here they feel us for 40 minutes.”
