Nobody cares what your personal opinion of Stewart was, especially from the perspective of your anti-constitutional, anti-freedom politics. It's worthless whining from someone who hates America. Fortunately, history will remember Stewart, & forget Byl, even as a footnote.
Why am I NOT MOURNING the death of Patrick Stewart?
I first saw Stewart as Picard after having known only Kirk, and I always found him weak by comparison.
Kirk had URGENCY.
Sisko had STRENGTH.
Janeway had FIRE.
Archer had FORCE.
Picard was just a mealy-mouthed liberal reading Shakespeare in space.
Then, in later years, he started lecturing us AMERICANS about politics.
In March 2017, he told The View that his friends in D.C. advised him that the best way to make a difference was to "fight, fight, oppose, oppose" TRUMP.
He said that applying for U.S. citizenship was his way to "fully engage in the American political system and legally oppose Donald Trump's administration and policies."
And he most famously said "The fact is when America sneezes, the world catches a cold. America I think is on the edge of a very bad flu infection and it's because of the man who's in the White House."
And I only grew to hate him more.
Finally, he willingly participated in the destruction of his own character, Jean-Luc Picard, in the first two seasons of that garbage Paramount+ show.
He stood by while they took everything that made Picard GREAT and DECONSTRUCTED it into woke "weak male" garbage.
So no, I'm not wearing black today.
Because when an actor chooses a side - and that side is AGAINST ME - that actor is already DEAD TO ME.
This is just the final nail in his already-closed coffin.

In addition to my day job, I'm trying to keep up with my scholarship. One thing I've been working on is a reimplementation of a popular tool (TransRate) for evaluating de novo transcriptome assemblies. See the paper here: arxiv.org/abs/2610.37031
Other points of argument aside, 3 things are clear. (1) Covid is definitionally endemic (2) if what someone is doing (e.g. masking) isn't hurting you, why bother them (3) nobody has an obligation to conform to someone else's preferences, and it's entitled to think they should.
Objectively false. Of all places there could be clarity in this, a proof is near the top. An AI-generated math solution is, in all meaningful ways, a solution.
> (any question you can ask and has an small enough answer is solved)
This isn't what P vs. NP says. Not even close. Even if P=NP, there are still EXPTIME problems, undecideable problems, etc...
Actually. If this proof is correct, it means 3-SAT can be solved in sub exponential time. 3-SAT is NP-complete, so we can reduce other NP-complete problems to it (and then solve it in sub exponential time).
Uhhh, this is a huge result. But:
> The entire computer science world has collapsed, and I was fucking shocked for a solid 5 minutes.
Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without telling me you don't know what you're talking about.

This is going to be a big week, in terms of releases.
First up: Cherimoya CATv1 is now in proto-tools (github.com/evo-design/proto-…), making our ~7.5k DNase+ATAC models available for design using this extremely cool tool. Thanks @benviggiano!
I would like for a unicorn to show up at my front door and fart out $10-20 billion in cash and tell me the winners of the world series and super bowls for the next 20 years!
There has been tremendous IP and copyright violation during AI training. I don’t think the models should be destroyed, rather I think we should tie their potential success to the public good/welfare (not a fine; recurring revenue). But stealing from Elvis… that’s rich/ironic.
It's going to take this person a light year to learn what exponential means 😂😂
If you had an exponential amount of compute you could solve simulate biology exactly and wouldn't need to run any experiments.
Some of you will think "of course, but that's an unrealistic assumption" and others will think "no, you need experiments even with that much compute. That's just How It's Done".
You would of course need evaluations once you have a solution, but you don't in principle need experiments to find it: Experiments are a way to save compute, dating from a time when it was much more expensive.
And I think the presentation is exponential but real systems aren't irreducibly exponential. AlphaFold worked, after all.
It is time to let C++ go. It has served honorably for decades, but its process is a boondoggle, and the language has refused to evolve in the most important ways. Let's look the the future and let the past go.
