Not quite true, not all art is formal or representative. I don't even dislike this statue, but the issue with it is that is attempting to symbolize the highest of ideals while not being quite good enough to symbolize it. The issue with it is the amount of publicizing it received
pastiche feels unbearable precisely because it confronts us with what we already know but can't really acknowledge. that all art is borrowed forms, and there is no ultimate guarantor of authenticity. and "pastiche" might be the most ready-made critical dismissal
